You think thats a bad scenario.....?

Try this:

A guy from Phoenix gets off a plane in Boston on route to Miami, he was with us as a spare player, and he has in his hand luggage a complete air system, bottle attached to the reg. He does not think that there is anything wrong with this as the Boston Airport Security collar him and examine the reg and bottle. Nearly missed the plane cos of his stupidity:rolleyes: They held us up for ages!

Speedy, there is no point taking chances. Do not say anything at check in, if they ask you, then be open, but otherwise keep quiet. And for gods sake dont 'Do an Ian' and carry anything onto the plane

Yep - i'd second this!

Completely seperate argument here and in no way is this a reason to think that you can take a bottle on a plane in your hand luggage:
In theory though... if you were to take a pressurised air system onto a plane wouldn't it be ok in the pressurised cabin? The issue in the hold would be that the pressure drops outside the plane and therefore in the hold. As a result, the pressure difference between the air in the bottle and the outside would increase hence the risk of the bottle blowing up? Gome on science geeks...:)

All of the advice is correct
Bottle with reg removed
Marker...always use this term! As dissasembled as much as possible..IE NO barrel in place
Copy of PGI on the top of your kit, so when they do open your case they will see that first.
Batteries out of timers and hoppers...with electro markers it isn't a problem
Phoning the airline IS a good idea but you should actually get your travel agent to do this as the result will be an "on approval" note on your booking details. What it means is as long as you can prove at the airport it is all safe then it will fly. It is very rare for you to be able to do this your self AND have the person you spoke to available when you are argueing with the check-in staff.
Just trying to bluff it and saying nothing will result in a vist to a room with rubber gloves and lubrication...remmeber it is always "that guy didn't say anything and it was ok" not when when you arrive and try to do it. England is totally ok with stuff going out as long as they know what you are carrying, it is other countries when you try to come home that most of the problems arise.

Eeerrrm i'd disagree with that. Loads of hassle getting out of Gatwick and no problems at all getting back in via Amsterdam. ;)

well i got my dad (he has a good phone voice) to call the air line (Ryan air in this case), and they have said what most of you guys said, we must take our regs off of our bottles, and also we must take the barrels and even the grip frames off (because anything that looks like a fire-arm will not be allowed on the plane). so that is what im going to do!

Stan, politely as possible you have only travelled a few times...I too have had trouble at Gatwick but then only the once when the security guy checking our luggage in forgot to write my name on his list...Now I insist that my luggage is always taken to security and cleared that way...pretty good side note is that they never weigh the bags in the security room :D
The horror stories I can tell you when flying home are just that horror stories. The last time my entire case was searched but it was painless as the airport staff had been seeing lots of the same x-ray pics for the previous 2 days...always pays to fly home a day or more after a big event ;)

Do you reckon air travel as a whole has a problem with paintball kit or have you had any dodgy experiences with a particular airline or do you think that it is security not knowing a marker when they see one?

What have been the causes of your most horrible nightmares?

may i also recommend to people that you take the batteries out of your markers and keep them in your hand luggage or buy them in the foreign land

batteries, escepically rechargables, do not like the extreme cold of a cargo hold
