imnovet is right, your job as a back man isn't to shoot people out, you're job is to watch, support and communicate with your front men to help them move up the field so they can shoot people out, only get into gun fights if you really need to to keep them in the game. Also move up with your front players when you can, too many back players sit at the back during the entire game which can completely negate a numbers advantage. Run and gun to back bunkers, its usualy better to shoot at the back centre because he's stationary off the break.

As a few guys have said, don't leave your front players in the lurch by pelting it down the field, but that said, don't just sit in your bunker. Don't develop tunnel vision, if you just focus on one guy, the other guys on his team will pick off your fronts, or worse, you!

STAY ALIVE! Backs usually have to finish or close a game, so be ready to run as well!

When gunning down a lane, train your gun on the target, but yet still look left/right whilest firing. Don't just focus on where your paint is landing. If you can survey the field and yet still blather your targets bunker then you're on to a winner.

Ensure you have a code for when you are pinned behind your barrcade. The last thing you need is to be pinned in and the front guy your "protecting" thinks your still blazing away. He needs to know that you're a little occupied.

If you do get pinned in, switch sides. Instead of coming out and shooting down the right, chnage to the left. ONLY BRIEFLY THOUGH. Chances are that is if there's a hail storm of paint coming on your usual side of the bunker, then there's someone trying a move on you. (usually the latter stages of a game). There's nothing better than coming out the side of your bunker and catching a fool in mid sprint to bunker you.

You need to be dominating your lanes, with an obscene amount of paint.

alot of being a back player is knowing your forward players on your team, if you can build up trust and awareness together you will soon find that you know the next move your team mate will do so you can lay some paint down and help him manouver.
