get in touch with the tournament organisers, I don't see why they would have a problem with small initial outlay to prevent a problem which could potentially put them out of business / With insurance premiums sky-high etc...

Also, probably stating the obvious but each bottle only needs one sticker, as the heat produced from filling (im told) melts the sticker to the bottle.

However, it probably should be a unified effort where everybody agrees on the warning and how to go about applying it.

In reponse to the actual thread (hehe) How easy would it be for H-pac to test a bottle for combustable substances? It's not a question of taking the reg off, wiping the inside, or blowing through the fill nipple, what has to be done? Im thinking that people who are unsure could take their bottles to the air producer at the event and have it checked out for a small fee?

Maybe not possible, maybe silly ideas, but will throw them in anyway

i notice fat bob's forum has already banned the sale of air systems in thier forum

i've bought and sold quite a few over the last couple of years, mostly through indecisivness, first i wanted 1.1l then fancied angel airs for a bit, you know the story i'm sure

but now you can get a brand new preset for £130 is it worth mucking about now?

i bought an old style max flow reg of a guy once, one of the first 4500psi ones, when it arrived i found all the manifold bolts at the bottom were loose! had i not noticed and tried gassing it up the reg part would have most likely shot across my room

when o told the bloke "oh, never looked at it ,got it off a mate and never actually used it"

one last thing though, i know to not use oil on my regs etc, but what does using oil in the fill nipple actually do that's bad?
see even those of us been at it a while need educating

Well you know how a Diesel engine works, it uses compression rather than a spark plug to get the oil to ignite. The same will happen if you put oil in your bottle via the fill nipple. The bottles gonna EXPLODE as soon as the tank is filled.

I don’t think banning the sale of regs and bottles is a good thing, but there should be some kind of control?
I’ve bought and sold regs on these forums and my kit has always been well maintained and looked after. (any one wanna buy a max-flo):D

Tom could probably check your bottle as well - but why not take it to someone locally who deals with HPA all day long. That being your local scuba/diving shop. That is where I get my bottles filled and tested. I know that they do a full safety check not only on the bottle - but on the reg/valve as well.

You take a car to a mechanic - you take a watch to a jewelers, so why not take your air bottles to a dive shop?

HTH :)
My dive shop doesnt fill bottles unless its go a little connecter thing, but i ave no idea what it is

Oh and my bottle has a big warning sticker on but i dont see many other bottles with one :(

Maybe one solution is having a named certificate of test?

The owner gets his/her bottle tested and a certificate is put in his/her name along with the bottle details (maybe a serial number if they have them???)

If he/she were to sell the bottle/reg, then the new owner would need to get the test certificate in their name. maybe transferable?

Only problem is, it would be a full time job for someone to be issuing/re-issuing test certificates.

It's a shame that very soon this incident will have been forgotten about and things will be back to normal, until the next time! and i'm sure there will be a next time.

My mate purchased a bottle and reg from a well known online shop and received no safety data or user manual. he was a complete noob and knew nothing about the dangers of HPA. Not that he's daft enough to temp fix his bottle or reg.
We are not made aware of the dangers by the manufacturers or retailers, it seems we are expected to know.

I purchased a roll of cable a few weeks back, it had instructions printed on the top of how to correctly pick it up so not to damage your back.
It weighed about 4kg, it's hardly a danger to your life!
