With the Cylinder incident in Madrid, is it about time to stop the trade on the forums in second hand bottles and regs???

When we buy these used items off the boards we have no idea how they have been treated by, on some occasions, several previous owners. Is this another Accident waiting to happen?

If this had happened in the UK and as people were injured there would probably have been a Health and Safety investigation which I am sure you will agree is the last thing paintball needs.

Yes I am sure most are brought and sold with a valid test date but if you have no idea who has carried out any repair work on the system how safe is it?

Time to stop and think?

Why?
The incident in Madrid was down to oil being used in the fill nipple. Coulda happened on a brand new tank if you happen to be the idiot putting oil where you shouldn't......

because i also see where zim is coming from its sort of like trusting life into someone that you might not know, i.e some random person who might have fooked his bottle and thought "hey, il make quick buck and get new bottle at same time, but what ever will i do bout this dodgy bottle", i get causios round anything thats gonne be holding 4500psi of hpa, thats in "mint condition", if its inmint condition why you selling it?

maybe thats a view that i, and only i take but its still a valid reason

So you'd never buy a 2nd hand car/bike?
Never buy anything but a brand new house?

Surely if you have any doubts about kit you get it checked out prior to use?

It was an unfortunate incident, and it was careless of the person responsable, but this is not any sort of method to stop an accident like this happening again.

Lets just say; I go out and I buy a new tank from a reputable store, i have problems so i put some oil in the fill nipple. Why would someone do this, becaise they have not been educated not to.

The problem is not of the sale of second hand bottles, it is of the people that buy them, so educate them about the bottle. Tell them not to, have stickies in the classifieds, have notices around fill stations, etc. Banning the sale of 2nd hand bottles will not help.

no. i like my second hand bottle just fine thanks... for those of us who can afford to buy em new, its necessary to buy em second hand, whether we like it or not.
maby we should focus more on making it known that you dont, under and circumstance put oil in your fill nipple, a warning on bottles perhaps?

Mechanics check cars but if you take the car to a mechanic.
Same thing with a bottle.
If the car looks fine does that mean that it is?

And if you did ban bottles, where would it stop?

I once bought some 2nd user goggs when i first started playing - and the lense fell out just messing at home! Would of been a bugger if it were during the game!

So, if this incident with my goggs had happened at a tourney, would that neccesitate a ban on gogg sales?

That was more down to me checking them, but as previosly stated, it should be down to the user to check his/her equipment prior to use..

Like the car example - if the car looks shagged, you wouldny just buy it and drive 200 miles and carry your family in it, if you needed to buy it, youd get it checked out by the AA or RAC etc.

Therefore i agree that its really a job of educating people what to do/what not to do, as opposed to ban people selling them. Infact, out of curiosity, how many situations have we heard of people selling air bottles and accidents happening?
