look at CC05, how many players did that bring in !? ok its a millenium event but so what, the principals are there, they managed to pull it off. they found the resources and they did it. there is NO reason why CC cant be held all over the country 4-5 times a year (and by that i mean an event of its size).

the UK needs a league whereby that if you as a player dont enter then you are no one and arnt as committed to paintball as you think. NOT tornaments where the farmer can take the cows off the fields for a few minutes so we can get some ball in.also these events need to be run by proper crews NOT a part time paintball team who run an event when they have spare time, it needs to be a proper 9-5 mon-fri job.

and dont say that there isnt space in built up areas, i was looking on PBN (i know, the shame !!) and it seemt that they run some of there events from college playing fields. and we all know how hard up college/unis/schools are for cash in our country, all you have to do is offer them some cash and there eating out of your hand

man i could go on all night....

agggghhhhhh

p.s i look forward to being flamed.
Please don't try to compare Millennium events to domestic tournaments - just see if you can find out how much they charge a) the series sponsors like the "approved" paint dealers and b) the trade stands, we are talking literally hundreds of thousands of pounds over the whole season.
The biggest cost of running something like a tournament isn't the site hire, it's stuff like the staff costs e.g. refs. And in the case of hiring a non-paintball venue like a college playing field, the additional set-up, tear down and clean up are even more expensive in staff costs.

Then please also read all my posts, carefully. I was making a point, possibly exaggerating a few things but then the previous posts were rather black and white as well. Yes, there are some site operators out there who are making a fortune and running fast cars and big houses. And there are plenty out there who run a little 50 person capacity site that does just well enough to suppliment their income from their "day" job. And there are some at all levels between. Try talking to a site operator or a tournament organiser about their costs, especially the invisible ones that people don't think about like insurance, general maintenance, water and electricity bills, storage space, advertising, even stuff like stationary etc.

BTW, I am not a site operator though I've worked on a few over the years. Neither am I a tournament organiser, though I've worked for a few of them as well. And that's given me enough of an idea about the costs involved in doing either to have sympathy for anyone doing these jobs. Loads of people come in to the sport & think it's easy - ask people like Sid from the Clan, who has said in this thread that it would cost him a fortune to do what he really wants, and he's someone who has been around a long time & really knows what it takes.

So not really a flame from me, though saying that everything I said was "bollocks" sounds like you trying to start the flaming!

;)

LIZ.....our place is not next to a sewage work's and the price we paid for all the stuuf is probley more than any other site in the uk we have to pay for each person being there even if they spectate........but we dont charge for them being there to watch.

It just gets me when people think you are in it for the money and have no idea what you have had to go though to get were you are.....I work as a chef dont get paid very much took the money for the site out against my house if the site covers the loan repayment then my misses is happy. i drive a clapped out puegot 106 r reg 96.......So when people try and come on here and bad mouth me and my teams site its just not fair we do it to try and make the sport that we love and hope to be one of the people who can make it move forward........

this is not aimed at any one its just every one coming on here saying this and that about sites and people that run them it's getting to me a bit and some of my team who come down to the site off there own backs and help out...but we get to train against the best teams around even pro's from the usa so thats our bonus.and when we see teams that have fromed becuase of us being there thats whats makes it worth while...

I know this has taken this thread well of corse but i said it now..

Why carnt we just all get along people have there own views and stuff but are we all doing the sport bad insteed of good?
who knows

Start with the flaming i am off to watch tv because i have no life sniff sniff.......

Exactly my point Markie. For every one operator who earns a fortune from sites there are dozens like you who have had to scrimp and save, and maybe even put their homes at risk, to build a decent site.
You clearly run the Northern Quarter for the love of the game, and state yourself it does little more than pay off the loan you took out to set it up. Then you get people slagging down sites because the location isn't perfect (by their standards) or some such other thing, and proclaiming that you must be earning a fortune as they have no idea of the hidden costs. Then they start whining because they have to pay a green fee that barely covers your outlay.

Brit paintball can't grow without more sites like D7 and NQ, people should be grateful for what they have got and encourage as many people to go as they can....anyone who dosn't is shooting themselves in the foot in the longrun.

And knowing the state of our 'average' tourney player, he'd probably miss...:)
