bullys running a no battle pack series in the woods maybe this is how,you get the youngsters started but at sup-air events, instead of the divs going on how good your team is maybe put it on age like football starting at under 14 then 16 and so on but limiting their equipment and amount of paint.you could even have mentors like robbo, nicky t and ledz for these kids, this is where we,ve got to start at the begining

Even at that, and no disrespect intended to the UK pro teams, but it doesn't have the same allure as banging heads with the Yanks......

I understand the fact that they are a money making machine, that essentially spews out paintball in an infantile form to the general public. However the fact that some of their sites are being updated to even host sup-air fields surely suggests that they do think about the tournament side slightly???

Perhaps a kick in the preverbial butt, and a discussion could form something where DF atleast provides some support for "punters" wishing to progress.
You are making a mistake in assuming Sup' Air equates to tournament paintball, when DF make it available on their sites, it's because it provides their customers with another playing option, that's all, it is not a precursor to playing tourneys.

But I doubt I would describe their product as 'infantile' ...you may not like it but with a bank balance like Ivan's got, I would tend to resist calling it infantile somehow :)

By infantile i mean the way that rec ball is essentially one of the most basic ways of playing paintball so perhaps i used the wrong word there, though indeed it is what attracts people -

However i see that DF and Skirmish sites having Sup-air fields will inevitably boost and give better depth to the public vision of "competitive paintball" as they finally get to see and experience what the "pros do" - Further to that as i mentioned in a previous post - If these large sites catered for a club that once again brought people more in key with the high level we play at, it will inevitably boost the standing of UK paintball - Obviously the companies still want to make money, so surely they could charge people membership fees for these clubs - and still sell paint; however at reduced prices to what the general public would pay on their weekend "stag do's" & "birthdays"

A couple of things (by no way everything) I have taken in since I last visited this thread are:

We got, from what I keep hearing, a healthy site business going on over here, and it's growing..... the answer seems to lay in the transition from that to tourney ... we have to work out if the transition rates have declined, and if so why?
Or the transition rate ratio is still the same which indicates they migrate across but are less satisfied with the product when they attend hence the resultant decline we witness today.
Its been covered but what incentive is there for site owners/operators to encourage the transition when the player will then want to pay something like 1/5th to 1/3rd for the paint they shoot. Many 'Punter' sites spawn teams, from their Marshals etc. but only a sote operator who is truly hooked on the Sup'Air format of paintball would activly encourage punters to take up tournament paintball. The transition from site to tournament is a deep gorge with a shakey rope bridge.

Limited Paint, no battle pack or Atlantic star, etc are great, inexpensive events and I’d encourage them to come back. If the fools at the other end want to burn their paint off in thirty seconds that suits me. The baptism of fire in a limited paint event is a lot less harsh and also creates a more level playing field.
I here the logic behind this but, paint is one of the few things that an organiser, or the traders at an event can make money from, that few quid per box keeps food on the table and is the biggest part of their turnover at events. To reduce the ammount of paint consumed would ultimatly either push up the entry fee or disuade traders from attending events, in a lot of cases.

And like Pete said the scene in the UK isn’t dead the Tourney scene is just a little lost......

Not claiming we will the ones to do it but our new series is based in the midlands and after discussions with Wendy she has talked about her desire to look after the elite teams as well as her normal teams at her events so we decided to cater for the fun style teams with 5 and 7 man events and an entry level style event. We are also running an x ball division for established teams to play in yet we have been met with a wall of negativity because we are trying to do things differently?? Unless i have missed something obvious?? We are actually trying to do something positive rather than just talk about how bad things are but there are times when i have thought why are we trying.

Bully has indeed started a woodland series to encourage own gunners to move to the next level and has told me he will feed the teams into King of the Hill if they do indeed want to give Sup'Air ball a try.

I must admit my King of the Hill events have been almost non exsistant this year, there is a need to introduce rec ballers to the sport whether it be tournament or scenerio, after speaking with Ledz and Bully i have been totally motivated to promote King of the Hill via sites, reducing the cost to £125 per team, semi only, limited paint a hopper and a pot.

I am running woodland ball tournaments at my own site hoping that own gunners in my area give it ago..also if Joe Customer sees a different side to paintball they may show an interest too.....

There are so many site owners that actively promote tournament and scenerio ball and i will endevour to contact them and enlist their help.
