Thinking about shooting a little movie...

Hey,

I'm an amateur film maker, and keen paintballer. Looking to combine these two, I'm thinking about making a little paintball film. It would be a John Woo style action sequence - one guy on a sup-air field against 20, all decked out in black suits, white shirts and black ties. A gangster shoot-out, only with paintballs flying over the place. No one-hit kills, paintballs pounding into chests and people "dying" dramatically. Real gun flares, all the sounds of a real gunfight. We've even got a few CG augmented scenes to throw in.

Ultimately I'm looking to make a fun little actio nsequence, with paintballs :D It would be shot on DV and put on-line for all to see.

Anyway, it may not happen, there are a lot of issues to consider. If we were to go ahead and do it, who'd be interested in appearing in the sequence? To keep our costs down, you'd need to bring your own gear. I can probably swing a field near the M25, but that's not a definite yet. As I see it, we'll need one rather acrobatic "lead" actor (it's not acting, you'll be running around in a mask shooting people, I'm sure most people here are rather comfortable doing that!) and 20 "bad guys" who'll get the **** shot out of them. The lead will take a few hits as well ;)

Very early days at the moment, I'm just after feedback, opinions and input.

Cheers

Matt

Yeah I expected a few comments like that. The point is it's being done like an action movie but replacing the real guns with paintballs. It's gimmicky sure, but could work quite well. Real gun flares and noises are needed to give the action impact. It would all be rather flat without the noise. How it's going to be done, I don't think it would reflect badly on paintballing at all. See it's not paintball! It's just fun :D

So if you are going to do it , drop the sound affects and film it in old school black and white gangster style. speed it up just a little for playback , and drop a piano sound track over the whole lot. Buster Keaton would be proud.

It'll look better ( or sound better ) , we dont want the
paintball = real guns link. Even if it is just for effect.

Just my opinion.

Must have missed that episode of Space - I'll track it down, don't want to copy anything! As for the B&W gangster idea - that's not quite the type of gangster film I mean :)

So why don't I think it will reflect badly on paintballing? Well because people have the ability to differentiate between real life and movies.

Those who've played paintball before would see that our guns aren't behaving like real markers, and laugh. Those who haven't played before, well you never know they may like the action enough that they get out and play paintball. Like it or not, one of the initial appeals of paintballing is that you get to use a "gun". Pretty much everyone who goes for the first time is there to play war. It's only later when they get into it, that the sporting aspects come to the forefront. If my little action sequence was to be done well (no gauarantee, I've never done anything like this before, it could well turn out ****!) it may even get people to play the game.

And then, it's just a small project for a bit of fun, that'll probably end up being seen by 10 people.

It's all about fun. It's not a movie about paintball, it's just using paintballs for a unique approach [the episode of Space not withstanding]. It's not like we'll have paintballs behaving like real bullets and splitting open masks

No they dont, otherwise there would not be all the fuss from people that there is too much violence and sex on TV.

Not for me it wasnt, i played cos it looked fun, and then got hooked on the adrenaline rush. It had nothing to do with using a gun! May people go for the adrenaline rush, or for teamn bonding days, or just to have fun. War doesnt come in to it.

You cant seriously believe that, of course it is about paintball. Except you are trying to portray it as a war game, with killing sprees.

If you make this film in the vain that you have stated above, i can see a load of people who will be pissed at you.

Why not try to promote the sport by doing something worthwhile, i.e making a 'Push' / 'Sunday Drivers' kind of movie? You may even make some money if you do it for the UK ballers, interviewing the names of UK paintball, following a Brit team round at a Millennium event.....etc
