physics actually does apply to paintballs, which is exactly why rifled barrels don't work well, as you said. Paintballs are generally inconsistent in size and shape, so the spinning caused by a rifled barrel actually reduces accuracy.

it's all about guidance with the front ported part, the longer the ball is guided for the longer it seems to stay stable after it is released

Longer barrels tend to require more air to get a ball's speed up to the same fps as with a shorter barrel. Longer barrels reduce efficiency, all other things being equal.

I don't think anyone would say barrels make no difference (did I just waste the $200 I spent on a Freak?). However, beyond a certain length, adding inches to your barrel won't make you a better shooter.....but, it will put a smile on your girlfriend's face.
