Ah..yes. But it wasn't necessary, because we were not going to shoot anyone in the face. If you don't aim for the face, it is not possible to get hit in the eye...right? I realize that it was idiotic to have that mindset, but it shaped my playing style. We used to go out, run around and shoot each other. no rules, just don't aim for the face.

I grew from an idiot with a paintgun into a well-informed player. When I bought my first "real" marker (an Inferno) I had no chrono, so my friends and I turned up the velocity to the point where the balls would break, then backed it off until they didn't. Needless to say we weren't shooting 300fps. Was it stupid? Yes. Do I regret it? No. Would I do it again, HELL NO!

I no longer take off my mask during games, and have even caught myself yelling at people to put their mask on. I chrono my gun before every game, and I give tips to newbies who are interested in the sport. I was lucky, but the newcomers might not be. I am interested in the sport as a whole now, and am honing my skills for my first tournament.

Be Safe.

Aparently a friend of a friend took off his mask once (or was it he just lifted it a little to spit?) anyway he ended up getting shot in the back of the mouth and couldn't speak for three months. Like I say it was a friend of a friend and do not know if it is true or not, but you never know it could happen. First thing that was ever drilled into me at my first paintball day was NEVER take your mask off. And to this day I never have and never will whilst on a field where there is play going on.

oh and bm8282, sure get your ass up and run but do make sure that you are holding the goggles to your eyes and face and run straight for the safe area where you can do something about you goggles. Don't want anyone seeing you run and think you are making a move and you end up getting shot in the head now do we.

If you'll allow me to add to this old thread ;) , when you somehow manage to loose your goggles during a game, DON'T GET UP AND RUN!!!!!! People will think that you are making a move at first, and their trigger finger will respond quicker than the response to not seeing any goggles on you.
What you need to do is drop down, and bury your face in the grass/sand/mud, cover what little bit of face is left exposed with your hands, and start screaming at the top of your voice. This way people will quickly realise something is wrong, and they'll come over to see what's up. This will allow you to put your goggles on in relative safety. I say relative, because you should never ever consider yourself safe in an area where players are holding live markers, and are not obliged to use a barrel plug/sock.
Extra tip, always be aware in the safe area too. Make suer you spot the inevitable jackass that walks in without a proper barrelplug/sock.
Sorry if I sound a bit preachy, but stuff like this is a hot issue for paintball as a whole, be it recball, or tourney.

Take care guys.

I totally agree. Scream your lungs out. Nobody shoots at someone screaming "hit" (even if you aren't, but it's the same thing). And if they do, get out your whippin stick cause it's dinner time.

I wouldn't even scream Hit. I'd scream unintellably, so they'd know something is FUBAR. That should stop the game real quick.

P.S. A good marshall should act too. I've done my share of marshalling in the days, and I've seen these things happen. What I think a marshall ought to do at times like those, is use his body to ensure the safety of the goggleless person. That's right, 'throw' yourself upon him.......

Problem with that is when you yell hit, people will still be shooting at other players. The whole point in a situation like this is to make everybody anywhere on the field stop shooting. That is the paramount issue. Because if there is still shooting going on, there is always the risk of a ball coming your way, even though it may not have been intended for you. The easiest way to achieve this effect is to convince the other players something is horribly wrong (which isn't far from the truth).
If you scream hit, and you bury your face in the dirt, people may think 'that git isn't leaving the field' and start giving you bonusballs. This obviously has to be prevented at all costs. So start yelping and screaming, people will go 'what the.....' and the marshall should be hauling ass your way.......

Hope that explained it somewhat. Just don't underestimate the risk involved.
