Yet another study of the list, I can see only 1 UK team that I might class as sandbaggers at a Millennium bearing in mind current experience as well as UK results.

Pat - go back through the thread & read all the posts on the difference between NATIONAL novice & INTERNATIONAL novice standard. Then look at who posted which side of the arguement, & think which of those people have watched or played in a fair number of Millenniums & know what the true standard is like.

Mayhem 2003 in Russia???

Sorry if I've missed something, but when was the decision taken to hold Mayhem in Russia. The last I heard, from Diablo Europe, was that Mayhem would be in Amsterdam again next year.

Can someone shed some light please?

Cheers

John

LIZ FYI : Shockwave 3 made finals in Amsterdam

Impact are the only UK novice team to reach a Millennium finals this year so far.

for what its worth, the novice team Shockwave 3 placed 4th at Amsterdam, making the finals our best Millennium result ever. You could argue that we have a French and a German player we are not a 100% UK team. We have also had a number of other foreign guest players.

As somebody pointed out, teams are not always the same team. For example, our team has a core of 3 or 4 players who have played all the Millennium events, the other players came from a pool of 6 or so, all down to cash and commitments, so our playing level, like other teams goes up and down, like a bouncing ball.

Everybody wants to win, so you are going to enter the level where you have a chance of doing well, especially as it costs time and a lot of money you have to earn yourself! If you win 2 or more events in a series, then you probably should move up to am, otherwise stay where you are until you get some consistancy. Life aint easy.

Grovel, grovel, apologies Mark. I DID say sorry earlier in this thread. As I said before, I plead temporary insanity & amnesia due to the rather unpleasant conditions. I even watched a couple of your games.
PLEASE accept the apology, really didn't mean to insult you or anything.

The skulls are not the same team as most people know them to be they are all new players and have only played 2 torneys and never any thing like this before.
And even if they were what did we ever win to make us sandbaggers 3 temple 7 mans thats it ,ok so we rank top 3 or 4 most times we play but not at anything like this.
As for the tigers it should be mayhem tigers y/g,s and we are the old skulls and after this torny we will be going am but again we have never made a final.

Well... I think......

Sheriff hit the nail on the head ( no pun intended). Most teams cant keep together a regular squad for one season, let alone 2 or 3 years. Trouble is, team names doo survive.

E.g when I first started playin tourney ball, the Chamelions were classed as a decent Pro team, but now they have dropped down to Am.

Same with Kelly's, they too have been around for years, but is it the original squad? Are they better, or worse? does it make a diffence?

Take a look at a more established sport, do football teams survive year to year with the original line up's?
Of course not, but they have earned the sponsorship, maybe had opportunities newly established teams dont have, etc etc.

I agree with Famines point of view, but can also see where Liz is coming from.

Perhaps the answer lies is trying to self-seed the tournament, so teams fall into a 'natural' skill bracket.

The other problems involved would be teams changing names, or teams picking up some ringers..... Players really should be more regulated. Question: isn't a novice team actually allowed one 'Pro' player on board?, but then if so, who actually defines which players are Pro and who isn't?

Withnthis kind of argument it could go on forever, but ona finishing note, if those teams out there who are sandbagging actually do win, I'm sure there will be a mighty stink kicked up!

You all have to remember that Millennium classifications have NOTHING to do with what level teams have/will/might play at all other event until such time at they play one event in that years Millennium series.

So - unless Chameleons - in any form with any players - (just using them as example as I don't think they are sandbaggin' actually) have played an event this year, they could enter at any level they want.

I would bet that after Campaign we will see a flurry of posts complaining the likes of Spirit of Norway and other Euro teams were sandbagging in Novice. They aren't, they are the Euro standard of Novice and should be Novice on a Euro scale (this year, although possibly step up next year).
