I think it is certainly a step forward although I think that the 'ED' will be confusing to the public as well.

A good effort, lets see how it goes

Mark, the E/D is the same as the goal difference used in football so I think they will grasp that very soon.
I really like this, in fact the pa pitched this last year but we thought it was to radical so fair play to the millennium for having the gonads to change it.
The PA has all the details from all the games last season so i am going to re -score a full division using the new scoring system proposed by the Millennium and let you know how it pans out.
If it ends up as I expect, I will propose we use it as well.

Well done Millennium.

If you are able to equal the score of "your betters" - you have i fact done better than they - and should be rewarded.
yeah i second that, seems a bit batty some new novice team coming along and playing a much better more experience team but holding them to a draw, but not going thru cos the team they played are higher seeded!

I wonder.....

....what they are going to do in the case of a walkover/no show ?

Does a team then get 3 points and 7+???

- You can hardly do "average" like you used to... and only giving the team 2 points doesn't really work, in terms of qualification for the semi-finals - does it?

Equal is not good enough, you gotta beat them, no mercy! The better seeded should (and will) advance. There must be some advantages in having a better seed (they might have played more events etc).

This is the 3rd tie breaker so I hope it's not needed.

Meh. I don't like it.

So what's harder to understand, a score board of:

Team A - 654
Team B - 652
Team C - 640
Team D - 630
Team E - 620
Team F - 618
Team G - 617
Team H - 600
Team I - 580

With Team A-D advancing to the finals or:

Team A - 6
Team B - 6
Team C - 6
Team D - 6
Team E - 6
Team F - 6
Team G - 6
Team H - 6
Team I - 5

With Team A-D advancing.

"Wait, they are tied!"

"No, you see, if you add up the ED's, you can see Team A's ED is one higher than Team B's, and Team C has 5 more ED points than Team F.....blah blah blah"

It doesn't do anything to make the situation less confusing.

Thats where your wrong - its only the 3rd tie breaker if it is used in the semi finals...think about it - if there is a draw in the quarters (ie who goes through to semis) then this rule will be 2nd tie as there is only one previous round of points to go back to...again not very likely but still possible.

I can see arguments to and for in this one, ie the higher or lower seed goes through, but I don't think either is really fair. This is where football has an advantage of home / away wins to fall back on.

Maybe we can substitute golden goal for 1-1 game to decide! :D

but when have u ever seen a score board like that?

also with the MS also cutting down prelims to 8 the max a team can get is 24 and the min is 0 - that leaves alot of teams likely to be on tied scores

Excuse but how the hell do the top scores relate to the bottom ones
Assuming Team A won 6 games then they will have at least 18 not 6 pts

This is the scoring system suggested to the Millennium by the NPPL when things were all rosey.
It goes along with the whole promotion/relegation thing and was going to be implemented at the same tome to get a more football/soccer score and league system that is universally recognised. Thats where they had the idea from.

I bet the NPPL are far from happy that the Millennium are taking the credit, however I can tell you that the NPPL decided not to run the system after applying the system to last seasons results. It threw up far to many draws. They even thought about applying win-times to the equation to add another qualifying factor, but this was rejected due to the extra pressure put on refs when Teams want to win games fast.

Anyway, I always liked the system and I hope it works out for the millennium, but I am not sure it has been completely thought through.
As for the scoreboard with all the 6's on it, thats pretty much what happened when they did the scoring analysis. It can very easily happen and would have done numerous times last season.

Making the scoring more obvious is great, but only if it can be easily understood. The Premiership works because they play 36 games. After 6 games a lot of the teams can be on the same points and goal difference.

Hopefully it works though, the days of hard to understand scoring have to end (I mean for the publis - I know you guys understand it)
