Hrm...no inspection by the judges? Well, throw out all of the marker safety specifications right then and there...rate of fire, modes, anti-chrono cheat locks, etc, etc. etc. Keep throwing out more rules in the book while you're at it, why not? And of course when one rule becomes a joke, then the whole set and process is degraded, and you have impotent rules, rules committees, referees...the whole structure. If I'm hearing you correctly on this, you're trying to keep that from happening, right?
If just touching your gun messes it up, then you either have incompetent judges that have no place in the event and/or overly sensitive setups that are just barely field worthy. "I don't want him touching it cause it'll mess up" other than maybe shooting a ball into their barrel condom is an air thin excuse.
