If I remember rightly, the Spanish were the first Europeans to colonise the American Continent, also the French, English, Germans, Dutch and Portugese had Colonies there. New York was originally New Amsterdam, and the first successful British colony was Jamestown.

The English spent most of their time fighting the French on US soil and generally left the Native Americans alone.

History not being my strongest subject, I believe Cristopher Columbus discovered and he is Spanish but England were the first to colonise I am told before we bought New Amsterdam from the Dutch, but we colonised New England before any other nation

But if we go way back you could also say the Vikings in all there mighty discovered the US and colonised

Just a thought and I know jack about it all, try something with some humour post a joke, dont be so serious
