Oh my God Giles, your level of ignorance astounds me, history has never been my strong subject but even I know some of the background that answers your question.Originally posted by Giles
One thing that has been on my mind for a while is that all american people are of English decent, Seeing as we colonised the country
Any thoughts please!!
The indigenous peoples of the USA are the American Indians as has already been stated but after we colonised the US, there has been an unending flow of different peoples into that country.
The Africans, Irish, Italians, Puerto Ricans, Mexicans and so on to name but a few.
The predominant peoples are what are termed as Wasps (White Anglo Saxon Protestants) and I think this is maybe where you are getting confused; these are not uniquely English but European.
True, the average white American has an English sounding name but this does not mean all Americans are descended from the English, far from it in fact.
The US is a multi-cultural and multi-ethnic country, more so than anywhere else in the world so you cannot define the peoples of the US in terms of just one derivative nationality.
