Sad how you don't know **** about history...
First of all, this thread is in good nature, but we have to get our facts straight. The Dutch did not surrender easily. We lasted what seemed like an unimpressive five days, but considering the fact that the Germans planned to move through Holland in five HOURS, it ain't so bad. Particularly considering our army was woefully inadequate, yet they had, what the Germans later described, a fighting spirit equalled only by the Red Devils at Arnhem.
Here are some facts for you.
1) At that point in time, the Dutch were the only force to actually halt a German offensive. A handful of soldiers stopped a German offensive dead in it's tracks at the Afsluitdijk, where the Germans got massacred. The same happened at the Nijmegen bridge, something that the British XXX corps and US 82nd Airborne divisions also experienced when they tried to take the same bridge four and a half years later during Operation Market Garden.
2) A handful of Royal Dutch Marines stopped a German paratroop division from taking the bridges in Rotterdam. This act led to the bombing of the city, which was the only reason the Dutch agreed to surrender. Fighting spirit was fine, but not at the cost of innocent life.
3) As well as to the RAF, the British also have a debt of gratitude to the Dutch. The Royal Dutch Airforce annihilated the fleet of transport planes, which were designated to play a major role in Operation Seelöwe, the invasion of the British subcontinent. Because of this lack of transports, the Germans could not do as they originally planned, which was to sweep into England almost as soon as France was conquered. They would also have succeeded in the initial landings (if they would have been able to take the country is doubtful though), because the British beaches were mostly undefended. The destruction of the transport fleet bought the British vital time which was used to build up the RAF after the asswhooping it receives in France.
4) Sure, the British have liberated parts of Holland, as did the Yanks, but by and large we were liberated by the Canadians, thank you very much.
If you want to talk fighting spirit, both the Dutch and British Royal Marines, the British SAS and Dutch SBS are all unequalled by any force in the world. With the exception of the French Foreign Legion, which admittedly aren't really French.
Here endeth the sermon.
