Any event with horses will have one to several people taking pics and selling prints on.
Was just about to say that - show jumping and dressage! :)

Well it´s definately about how you look - but not only in an arrogant self-satisfied way, but off course also what concerns technical skills! At least that´s how I see it? Would LOVE to see myself on video (yeah I can see how that is bound to get misunderstood!! ;)), not to see how my gear looks "live" or how my hair is, but definately to see what I do right and wrong on field!

Paintball Vanity

Was editing the pics from Marseille on the flight back from there and Tigers and Shockwave were scrimmaging in the gangway to get a look:D

But one thing that you do get from looking at all the pics, you can pick up on schoolboy errors, for example, one unspecified player was checking out his form when we all noticed that he was using the old pro trick of running out shielding his goggles with his hand, only trouble was it was the hand furthest away from where the paint would be coming from. :D

Mmmm, I can sort of see the point of checking for techincal errors but I still think for the most part it is vanity based.

Plenty of other sports have technical shortfalls that can be seen in photos but they don't have the same amount of clamouring for after event photos.

Was just an observation, and I was interested as to peoples theories as to why it may be...

''these othe sports''

Are you on the forums of these other sports if not how do you know if there asking or not for photos?

Just a suggestion
Very true.
Football, Rugby, Motor Racing and loads of other sports you will see photographers taking photos that end up on the pages of your local/ national paper and on the walls of fans, players etc very much like some of the photos that end up in PBUK, PGI to name but a few magazines.

I remember the 1st picture of me that was in PBUK and i was over the moon as id just started playing. Since then its great seeing photos on hlconcepts.fotopic.net & Merv.tv of me and my team.

Its something to remember your playing days, show your family and friends, vanity, technique & Laugh at your friend who fell over just as the camera went "click".:D

I think one of the differences between why people like their photos is that in football, rugby and a lot of other team sports, there are periods when people aren’t doing anything major or thrilling, ie in football the defenders might be stood around, or running, but not chasing the ball, its nothing exciting or doesn’t look good for photos

Where as in paintball this never happens, there is never a moment in that 10 minutes that you aren’t doing something (unless your off to the deadbox) even when your behind your bunker your snap shooting, covering a lane, and at any moment you could be getting that other player shot, its a game where any moment something could turn the tide of a game, you want that moment captured

That’s my opinion, or we are in a game where everyone is obsessed with looking good and having a high level of vanity and using equipment with names made up by a 10 year old such as, Matrix, Viking, Intimidator, Wrath, EGO, Karnivor, or shocker...

...o wait we are lol

Yeh khanzo is right, every picture of a paintballer on field is an action shot, and if its not then your not playing like you should be.
All you have to do is look on axion images, they do paintball, running, horse riding, track racing, rally, gocart, superbike and moto racing, so its obviously not only paintball, when i phoned up and had a chat i got the impression that the paintball photos arent thier biggest seller.

Its pretty simple, if you think its vain then dont buy one lol, no one is making you, but photos go nice with memories.

Every picture is an action shot?!?! Oh look, there's Bob standing behind his bunker! And there he is now kneeling behind his bunker! Wow, check him out now laying on the ground or standing at the start waiting for game on. With action like that it's no wonder the TV boys are beating down Paintball's door.

Has anyone ever been involved in another sport where this phenomenom is as prevalent? Is it just because of the adundance of kit people where or does it just attract a certain sort of person?
You don't get people clamouring for photos in my sport (rowing) as the companies who do it are well known within the sport and get their photos up a few hours after the event. However, as soon as they are out they often get sent round by email and again, the technical fault finding is often a major drive in this as rowing is an incredibly technical sport.

People don't need to ask for pics or post up "when will pics of the S****horpe International be up" cos there are 3 companies who cover the majority of rowing competitions so it's easy to find pics and they get them up within hours of the event finishing.
