Using the standard bolt and a halo isnt going to work even in perfect playing conditions Im afraid.

Try kitch or fly on these boards for softnose bolts they are a great upgrade especially if you want to use a halo.

Until you get the softnose then use a revvy or egg.

Make sure your gun is setup properly and your COPS is working correctly and it shouldnt break paint.

In particular check your ball detent and ram adjustment (see angel manual www.wdp.tv).

Just make sure the COPS sensor is in good condition, make sure the metal strip inside the plastic peice is in tact and the wires are all in place and not pinched or broken.

The other things to try are your ball detent (which we have already covered I think) and your ram position.

To check your ram position pull back the breach pin and open and close the breach. The breach should give slight resistance when you open and close it, as the bolt pin snaps into the hammer. If the bolt just falls in to place then you will need a ram adjustment tool to set the ram.

Something to add to John's spot on comments. Have a look at the groove in the hammer, where the bolt pin sits. As they get on in life the bolt pin wears a notch into the back face of the hammer groove. If you can see any notches in the hammer, it'll need to be replaced.

You may need to rotate the hammer to see all the groove, as there may be notches at different points around the groove.

Here's a pic.

If the bolt sits in the notch it will be further away from the ball. When it moves to a different point in the slot it will be closer to the ball.
This means you can't set the ram position correctly.

This is a fairly awkward job to do, as the ram must be removed without damaging it's o-rings. Then you have to remove the loctited hammer off the ram without damaging the ram. Then refit the new hammer, and replace and setup the ram.
