oh dear... played with my ir3 fly today and had some serious problems with paint... was using a halo with decent battrys and was still breaking a lot of paint. i put most of it down to the cold,

but it has made me realise that getting to grips with the cops system would actualy be a fairly good idea...

to be honest guys i dont know where to start with it, i know what it looks like... well just about. but i dont know what position the wiper (by this i mean the part inside the see through plastic part thats connected to the board).

i've got a game on the 29th, so i need help!!:(

A lot of people (me included) have had problems with IR3's recently and I think it probably is down to the cold weather. I lent mine out the other week and my mate had nothing but trouble with it, it just kept chopping balls in the breach. I've had a play with it in not-so cold weather and it's been working fine.

You might be chopping paint because the IR3's have only one ball detent, the ball isn't held in place in the breach. Under all the pressure of the HALO, the balls in the feedneck bear down onto the ball in the breach, and cause it to roll back into the face of the bolt. When that happens, the next ball in the feedneck partially feeds, and when you shoot, you break it.

Try using an egg hopper.

Read the manual, if you don't have one check out WDps site.

The COPS is easy to set up an works quite well. You will probably have to clean yours before you use it if you have been chopping.

Also as above, use an egg. I used a Halo on an 03 Speed and ended up with 12 balls in the barrel. 1 detent just isn't up to halos.

It's quite easy to put a 2nd detent into ir3's especialy on the flys, I think Tom Allen is doing it for Spitfire.co.uk, the most common thing with broken paint in relation to the halo's/ir3 combination is tthe force feed of the balls onto the ir3's cops rod, as the halo is more than capable of doing the 20mps max of the ir3 you could get a tech (or do it yourself if you are reasonable competant) to remove the cops rod.

Sorry for the poor spelling just got back from the pub:cool:

Tom i know we've just talked by pm about the 2nd detent, but you may want to consider getting it Spitfired, saves the cost of the 2nd detent.

Problem with HALO's has little or nothing to do with the COPS rod, that's mostly myth. The COPS rod isn't really long enough or rigid enough to puncture a ball in most cases (unless you've got an odd-manufactured one that's a bit extra long). Got everything to do with balls rolling into the bolt face. A second detent could solve it, but a cheaper option to try would be to buy an A4/Fly soft face bolt and double check your ram adjustment. The dome in the face of the bolt prevents balls from rolling into it, and having your ram adjusted properly ensures that the bolt isn't any farther back than it has to be. Seriously, between those two, you should be able to get your IR3 up and rolling.
