PGI Issue #174

Shuck Says: PGI issue #174 is looking like its gonna be the biggest selling issue ever! There is just something about hot babes, that makes a man buy two or more copies of the same mag! I heard talk that ones a 'dry copy' and the other a 'wet' one, but I had no idea what they were talking about! :p

Chances Shuck will buy more than one copy: 10/10

The biggest problem with Steve Davidson's format is Steve Davidson.

If Steve has come to his senses over the past 2 years and decided to market the whole thing differently, it might have a shot - if not, it'll never work. One thing you can say about X Ball is anybody can play it anywhere if they want to, and that's extremely important for a format's long-term viability.

Getting Up Again
Baca, TJ, Nick,

TJ: 5 out of 10 is a good rating, as a roll-out of the Davidson format at Miami Super 7 is still up in the air;

USPL has obtained sponsorship from a couple of major players, and has gotten others on board to cover the manufacture of the special mask retention system needed. We've secured the bunkers we need and have some good potential for television coverage of the event itself - but Chuck has asked us to hold off for now pending whatever he has going.

So at this point, neither Biff, myself, nor anyone else knows whether we'll be demoing the format.

Baca; advancing the flag won't slow things down, but it will focus the action. The thing I expect most folks will see as a major and exciting difference between this format and the other so-called revolutionary, unique, in-the-making-for-ten-years, what-a-genius-a-certain-someone-is format will be the physical contact and aerial action.

Isn't it amazing how many people have voluntarily become JB's Howdy-Doody over the years? Isn't it amazing how frequently they all say exactly the same things when they attack?

No - not really. LOL

Jackpot!

Assuming Steve is still using the "flag" he was 3 years ago, it's not what you'd think. The "flag" is really sort of a ball in a sock, so it's passable, but you can't just launch it the whole length of the field due to drag. It's actually pretty nifty.

A big part of Steve's game is bunker bouncing, where you ram a bunker someone is using as cover to knock them out so your teammate can shoot them. I think this is overrated - it's cool and interesting when you've got people new to the format on the field, but the bunkers Steve uses (laydown sausages, under the theory the round shape is easier to film over) are so big that it's a pretty easy adjustment to just play 2 feet back from the bunker instead of right on it and make yourself immune to the bouncing.

Isn't interesting how everytime someone does something wrong they somehow manage to make it JB's fault?

Format cool. Previous marketing of format bad, and it has nothing to do with anyone other than Steve. And I've got the contracts to prove it. I think, if that hard drive didn't crash by now.

Steve Davidson's USPL format features both a 'flag' as Chris outlines, and encourages physical contact of players on bunkers to bounce players out of them...I've never seen it, but I know John Sosta was trying to implement something similar to Steve's 'flag' thing over here - and personally, the bouncing thing sounds pretty ****ing cool to me. I'd play it.
