What did I miss?

Gotta (mildly) disagree with a few of the guesses on the board. In theory I agree with Tyger but in reality NPPL has to step up and do it quick--not only because they said they would as the maestro pointed out but because they do have to compete with Chicago one way or another. If NPPL is going to maintain the continuity of series play they can't skip an event. Also if they back away now and teams have little or no option but to stick with PSP all the potential advantage gained because of Vegas disappears. The make or break for either league is really the great unwashed masses of novice teams (and now rookie) who don't have any reason other than their wallets to choose one over the other. (And if in fact the pro ranks split it really makes a mockery of the division in either league. They can skip the prelims and go straight to the semis...)
As to the 7-man thing. No doubt it is the wave of the future but Americans are mighty stubborn when they want to be. Remember we were going to go metric once upon to be like the rest of the world--or maybe not! I expect a transition period to 7-man to take awhile.

You're making my head spin

and I'm not a huge fan of The Exorcist.
Toulouse is great but doesn't do anything for US ballers and the NPPL has to get its own house in order before it can start "conquering" the world. Just my opinion of course. [Down the road another story altogether.]
I think a lot of teams will give NPPL a shot if the option is available to them but whatever happens will play somewhere. NPPl actually has (potentially) a huge advantage over PSP if they're approaching this the right way. NPPL doesn't have to turn a profit--they only have to bring together venue, sponsors, industry and teams. I can see the possibility of co-ordinating a very sweet arrangement that offers benefits to all the parties involved.
I know the leanings in a couple of camps down here but others are black hole quiet for the moment. Atypically, everyone is being very close mouthed right now.

PS--how was the "flight" home, maestro?

OK, two ways...

I - Tie-up with Toulouse. That way you get your third event AND the top Pro and Am US teams without taking on Chicago

II - You do your own Chicago at Challenge Park, maybe 7-, maybe 10-man, and you have to take on a huge event, second only to tha Cup on the circuit

Both are risky, granted, but way one is tha way I'd go IF it could be worked politically...

Tha flight? Ah, you know...it, er, flew by...

Well, I'm with Baca on the Toulouse thing, the advantage the NPPL has over PSP is twofold.

One is that they can currently cash in on a bit of the hostility to PSP after LA and Vegas. But cashing that in would only be good with US 'ballers as that's where they can play the "we are providing this for you" card the best. Toulouse just doesn't fit that. They do also need to keep the momentum of the series thing going.

Challenge Park is alright but I have been hearing bad things about it's ability to take on an event this size (just as people were asking if we had "outgrown" SC). The last thing the NPPL want to do is ruin thier first attempt and loose the anti-PSP momentum.

Now - the NPPL doesn't have the initial financial backing of PSP as it can't so easily dig into it's own pockets to finance an event like the PSP promoters can (if they are willing too). So the tie--up with the Millennium series is just soo perfect as it almost guarantees a certain level of industry support as no sponsor could really afford to pull out of both events. Plus the Diablo, JT(BE) seemed destined to go with NPPL anyway.
