take a look in the classifieds section, you can get a tourney grade gun like a cocker, angel, impulse etc.. for around £300 and an airsystem for around £100. would be a far better buy. Also the benefit there would be that the gun would already be set up for tournaments.

Now would be a good time to buy as there are people who have changed sponsors etc.. are are offloading a number of guns for stupid prices.:)

take a look in the classifieds dude.:)

To be honest I wouldnt spend that much on your first gun. The Piranha is probably fine, but just get a Co2 bottle. Co2 is smaller, easier, less leaky, and it will last you all day. Air is standard for tournaments, but most walk ons Ive been to only fill to around 2500 psi, so you'll find yourself going back for refills, and if you want to practice at home etc, you'll run out of air very quick.

Personaly Id try and get a decent electronic blowback off the classifieds. That way the gun will be worn in (no teething troubles) and working good, possibly with some upgrades to it aswell. (plus will probably have co2 thrown in)

The revvy is a good choice imho, except watch out for the feednecks (they break easily). Dont bother with a gem series one, you'll save a tenner getting a black one, and you can still see how much paint youve got left. And black looks better :)

Where you want to buy top of the line though, is on goggles. Its essential that you get a good pair. They need to fit well, feel good, and not fog up. Its down to personal choice really, as the JT Pro flex, Dye Invisions and Vforce Profilers (and others) are all good. Try them all on if possible and see which one you like most.

Listen to the guys on here with experience of the game, then go look for yourself, attend a couple of tourneys and see what people are shooting.

Do not listen to the "ive got an spyder they are good stuff" listen to the people who have had lots of markers and the good and bad bits of all.

Myth has already said get a new grip frame for your marker ... you are another 100 in the hole before you start.

I guarantee it that even in the nov ranks noone will have a piranah on co2, hell you prob wont be able to get co2 fill at the tourney.

You will have a hard enough time learning the game at tournament level without the worries of a below spec marker, spend a little money now to save a lot later. Your piranah will not be worth anything and you will be outgunned by the oldest cheapest angel.

Tounaments have changes and more emphasis is placed on firepower and dominating the oposition, you do not want to be the weak link in that.

You may say i play front i dont need rof to help me but you do. You dont want to try to get into a team but the marker let you down.

Again listen to the tourney players for advice on tourney level markers.

Myth is new to the scene and no disrespect but maybe isnt as qualified to give you advice as some others.

Listen wisely to the advice on offer, new and shinny does not necessarily mean better. If you decide paintball is not for you, you could always unload the gun on the classifieds anyway (unlikely with a base spec marker unless you want to give it away).

Take a look through the classified and although maybe out of your price range, but some guns are now selling for a fraction of their new cost. I year old Ir3s are going for less than a third of their new price, so depreciation should be a consideration if cash is tight.

Players like SJT19 and Adrenochrome are either Uber Pro's or been around since before dinosaurs ruled the Earth (infact I heard Adrenochrome was playing when bayoneting your opponent was tournament legal). Learn from their wisdom.

You mean bayoneting your opponent isn't allowed any more!! god damm it there goes my whole game :)

But back to the subject, tkae the advice of trounament players, not the rec ballers, if you want to buy a marker for trounys. If you just want to rec ball then listen to the rec ballers.

It's clear that several people including myself have said that Co2 is a no no for trounys, you get velo spikes when using Co2, and the last thing you want is to get pulled for running a hot gun.
You have £350 ish to spend, save up a bit more and spend say £500-£550 on a good maker like a Autococker etc and Air.

Like people have said if you want to go rec ballering then go for the set up your talking about. If you want to go the trouny way listen to the trouny players

I didnt want my post to be misconstrued as tourney advice. He said he'd like to eventualy get into tourneys, but at the moment it would be a rec ball gun. The thing is, you want a simple, reliable gun to begin with.

But no ones gonna agree are they. As a brand new player, you probably wont get into tourneys for a pretty long time, by wich point you'll know which gun you really want to go for.

Ah well.

Really???, I think if you put your mind to it, you can become tournament competent in a very short space of time. There are some posters on the site who've gone from rank beginner to EXL pro within a year. Depends upon your level of dedication and commitment.

The advice on offer is from experienced players who have a wealth of knowledge. Paintball can be prohibitively expensive in terms of kit, and to be frank Kit generally suffers from the laws of diminishing returns. Nonetheless, most ballers will be trading up kit at an alarming rate (some people seem to get new markers when they get a barrel smeg, but that's a different story). We appreciate it's very difficult sport to break into and people are offering advice and alternatives out there.

Yes you could buy new and benefit from peace of mind and warranties etc, but the worst thing in Paintball (IMHO), is being out gunned (whether that be by naughty guns or not). Any of the guys will tell you (no matter what they level they currently play), exactly what that feels like.

Whatever gun you end up buying, leave yourself plenty of money for bullets. Thats the only way you can progress by getting out there and practicing, and that involves shooting paint. No point having a shinny gun at home if you've got no bullets to feed it.

LlSTEN WELL

listen well to the words of the wise stongle young padawan. For he is small green and wrinkly, and he has owned most markers out there (admitedly for about a week each as he then sees something shinier).

And bayonetting was only legal after employing the surrender rule, no surrender ... get stuck. And im not that old glen you cheeky B. Just cos you look twelve... must be all that face cream you use.
