(I can't help but think when reading a paintball mag it doesn't matter how "PRO" a team is. If they mention their sponsor the same number of readers will see it)
I disagree. The same number of readers will not see it. If there is a team like Dynasty or XSV in a photo, the reader is far more likely to look harder at the picture, and theefore take more note of the sponsor logos on the loader or goggles. People are far more likely to give lower division players, or people they do not recognise nothing more than a cursory glance, taking no notice of the sticker on the loader, or the make of goggles.

The top Pro players stand out, and as such, people take far more notice of the kit they use or the guns they shoot.

In Tampa, there were hundreds of players walking around in Pev's Paintball Tshirts, ovbiously from the stable of teams that Pev backs. But i would bet that Pev gets far more recognition from the fact that Jon Richardson and Davey Williamson have the Pev logo down their trousers.

You can stick an image or logo on as many players as you want, but if it is not on the right players, those who everyone knows, then it doesnt mean jack.

Also, how many people actually listen to the speches of the teams below pro in the MS/NPPL anyway? Most of the time the crowd are only there for the usual Dynasty shirt throwing or free titbits from XSV. The focus is all on the top pro teams. In many of the finals of NPPL and MS events, the lower teams are sidelined on other fields, while the Pros play on the center field. Just look at Germany for examples of this. Many of the main crowd had no idea who was even playing on the JT field while Joy, Nexus, Arsenal and XSV were playing their finals games.

So your saying that it's better to get your ass handed to you in pro, and get no coverage, tham to come top end of a lower div repeatedly and get 'some' coverage/mentions/photos rather than none?.....Not show people your a growing team, because 'nobody' cares..

It's an interesting thought really, because on that logic...why back any UK team other than Nexus-who get coverage no matter how well they do? Without help from Russians/USA/..God; Tampa showed that the only thing UK teams are gonna be seen wearing is other teams' paint..

Edit: I'm not trying to wind you up, I just think that lower div teams who can organise their sponsorship and show consistency-should be encouraged not put down, no publicity is bad:)

sjt19, you have a vested interest in thinking that pros are the only valuable destination for sponsor money. In fact, I learned more about Pev's and found more reason to anticipate the expansion into Denver from novice players that I talked to or guested with than from seeing the logo on pro jerseys. It was only after meeting some of Pev's D2 guys that I even picked the Pev's logo out of the confusion on some pro jerseys.

I think pros can potentially be of huge benefit to their main sponsors, but how many Canadians are choosing Badlands because of Dynasty? Some, I guess.

The sponsorship benefit pros offer is based on people wanting to emulate them. That works for XSV, Infamous, Dynasty, Avalanche (the System X thing is a great test of how much benefit they can have for a sponsor), and some others. I question how much people want to emulate Rage, aside from the local Florida teams. I am sure there are players in Florida who want to be on Dynasty, but how many Californians want to go play for Rage? Some, I guess.

I totally agree with you. Aside from teams such as Lanche, Dynasty, XSV and a handfull of others, there is no point in sponsoring teams from an exposure point of view at all.

If you actually look at it though, many of the pro teams outside the top 10 have the backing they do because they are tied to something that the sponsor values, like a shop or site or magazine. Things like that account for a large portion of the backing these teams get.

Not really, aside from the top tems in the world, as in the really top teams, lower pro teams are not widely recognized or publisised. Its just being realistic.

there are alot of teams out there, usually new teams that come looking for everything and prepared to give nothing.

at the end of the day a company dont care what ure nicknames are etc etc

they care about how much publicity u will offer to them. i.e winning events and getting on the podium, wearing there kit etc

How would a new team go about getting sponsored? Is it a case of blanket mailing every paintball company giving them a reason to sponsor you? Again, would you just be looking at paint deals to start with?
the best thing for new teams to do if build up a good image. Go out get regonised, get known win some tournaments then go to companys, but dont bite more than u can swallow. dont ask for too much and keep a good relationship with your sponsors

in some cases u could go out and play DMA for example, win div 3 and your sponsors may give u x amount of paint free just because u got on that podium and gave their company publicity

.

Bad example, Badlands was the biggest store in canada well before dynasty got sponsored by em, and since most canadians order from them their raises in sales wouldn't be very obvious.
