Having taken on the responsibility of being the team bean counter I've found myself pondering where we can get more money and better discounts.

From previous thread comments I've drawn the conclusion that most teams have fairly simple sponsorship agreements which are composed of three things.

1) We will supply paint at a better price than if you just show up at the tournament asking for it in exchange for buying exclusivly from us.

2) We are a gear shop and will give you a discount.

3) Someone on the team runs/related to a business and convinces them to put some cash in the team.

Now we all know the reason most teams don't get anything better than the above incentivised buying is because they are not helping generate any revenue for the "sponsors".

But what about when they do? Should we be be creating contract agreements that go into more detail and permutations so teams can cash in on any success they have,

e.g podium placing with sponsor mention gets paint/cash
Sponsorship mention in printed word as above.
Picture in Paintball magazine showing sponsor logo gets something
(I can't help but think when reading a paintball mag it doesn't matter how "PRO" a team is. If they mention their sponsor the same number of readers will see it)

OR is the track record of a team to do the above just used as a deciding factor when deciding on the level of incentivised buying.

I'd like to hear from people who are in teams with complex sponsorship deals or people that sponsor teams. Are the above reasonable things to put in a sponsorship contract and what sort of value would you tag on them? What other examples of generating revenue are there?

In conclusion, should we be asking for more????

Note: My team's agreements don't just consist of the 3 above :)

The contract agreements you suggest are actually in use with quite alot of teams. Pro or top AM teams anyway.

The only way you can promise coverage to a sponsor is by placing high in major events, or being the editor of PGI;)

We got a hefty out-of-industry cash sponsorship from the bar near where we practice most of the time.

More of a rebate actually.

Yeah it's good, but I'm going to classify that under the third category :)

Pls don't turn this into a sponsor me, I'm a up and coming noob thread. I want to provide some genuine advice to new teams as to what sort of reasonable things they should be asking for which they don't realise is available.

What kind of sponsorships could you expect from out-of-industry sponsors? Would it be simply cash for paint/equipment?

Also, would they expect a certain amount of publicity? I suppose it's hard to give publicity for non paintball related companies at tournaments.

How would a new team go about getting sponsored? Is it a case of blanket mailing every paintball company giving them a reason to sponsor you? Again, would you just be looking at paint deals to start with?

Cheers :)
