i think i might hit a nerve with all those players out there who think that they can get their impy/shocker/angel/timmy ... to fire at over 20bps.

why? well thats my point, WHY?? why would you want to? ive seen it so many times, in the range, and in the neutral zones people firing at rates that may be close, or dare i say over. but as soon as you put them on the fired the rate of fire is nearer 8-10 bps. because there is rarely any need to fire that fast in a game.

So please can anyone tell me, other that to try and boast the fastest marker, why would anyone want to shoot more than 10-15 (if that) balls a second?

i dont have an electro im happy with my cocker but i can see why people try to make them faster in theroy. The more paint you can put in the air in a situation like a guy moving between bunkers be more likley you are to hit him, (if you can shoot straight)

but i think about 13bps is a good benchmark.

Simple physics Billy. The more bps, the closer the balls are to each other. The closer the balls are, the more chance of hitting a running target.

the physics makes sence, the theory is sound, the problem comes with reality. i have very rarely seen a player use the insane speeds that some of these electronic markers are capable of to any real advantage. all talk no trousers if ya know wat i mean.

My BPS is better than your BPS

You are forgetting the REAL reason, Paintballers like expensive, silly-named things that can do everything except make the tea, esp. if the things are shiny and only deliver 10% of what they promise on the ads!;)

and as for elctirc frames for cockers, i cant understand. yes it makes the trigger pull minute. however, people then try and get near 20bps out of them. there CANT run at over 12-14 bps, and thats at a push becuase of the required time for all the firing processes to be carried out..
anyone trying to get more than that out of a cocker will end up with calslaw coming out of the barrel, not paintballs.
i dont mean every now and then, but every ball will be minced.
ive seen it happen

I've seen a few fast triggers fingers

The last couple of really quick rate of fire guys have all been pros or close enough to be called pros.

People like Jimmy the Sponge (saw him dump a hopper on the way out to his first barricade once!) Chris Edwards, Mark Toye etc etc. Having been on the field against these guys at one point or another it certainly inclines you to haul ass to the bunker quicker.... Leaving there other team mates the opportunity to shoot your teams runners out.
Obviously i'm not trying to say thats the only skill a pro player needs but sometimes it really can help!

Billy my sweet, you are coming to Campaign this year aren't you. So have a look at a few of the top US back players & then tell me people don't use that kind of rof! They can carry out 15 pots & use the lot in well under the 10 minutes & they aren't firing all the time.

its happens in every sport, not just paintball. Its all about getting the maximum from your equipment.

If your equipment can perform to the max then you feel more comfortable with it, more confident with it and may play better.

Having said that, I sucked on Sunday at practice, having just spent about 1500quid on new gear, someone (very cruelly I might add) said "money cant buy talent" and he's right, but what it can buy us is confidence and put us in the best position to be able to show our talent.

I guess what I am trying to say is, companies innovate, we the paintball buying public buy those innovations. An Electro marker capable of firing 20bps is giving us what we feel is an advantage over the guy with a blowback semi firing 5 - 8 bps.... The more paint you can get in the air the more chance you have of hitting the guy you are aiming at whether you are a good aim or not. I personally use an Eclipse cocker, its faster than my spyder but slower than an electro, but I feel comfortable and confident when using it so it suits me. Other people are the same with thier markers. I think you are looking at it in the wrong light, its not about BPS its about what a player feels comfortable using and if it does 20bps as well as being comfortable then thats a bonus.
