One of the team used some V-balls the other week and they weight the same as your average paintball... But due to the velcro like material that covers them they only go about 30ft...

Now i ain't been shot with them so could not tell you if they hurt more than a paintball...But i would imagine they come with the same safety warning that any paintball product comes with "don't shoot at a person with in 10ft".

they won't fly anything like a paintball.......... it's a smooth ball of goo, they are solid and covered in hooks.......... I don't see the point, and I don't think they are meant to be fired at anyone. the minute you fire anything but paintballs out of a marker you are voiding all warranties and using it for a purpose other than that for which it was intended......therefore altering it's definition under law.

AT NO POINT IN ANY OF THE ADVERTISING DOES IT MENTION FIRING AT PEOPLE.
It only mentions targets, some body armour is coming out to allow full contact play............ they need to be fired at "significantly reduced velocity" and weigh 1.2 grammes.............
as a paintball weighs around 3 grammes, this puts the foot pound rate to about 3 (you're allowed 12) so if you reduce the velocity and reduce the weight, it's going to fly as fast and straight as a box of cornflakes.
Sound like absolute crap........ only good for targets indoors and 30 feet away. So what use are they to us?

And remember, these are sold from the US, I don't think anyone has a clue if they are legal ro use over here at all.

besides all that if you think that i am going to put anything other than paint thru my £1000+ marker you must be loopy.......id rather by a couple of cases of cheap paint than scratch it all up inside with balls that have been on the floor and thrown back in a hopper.
that aside, i can see that from a legal point of view a paintball marker that is loaded with these solid balls has in thoery the potential to be used as a weapon......not too far removed from the plastic bullets that police use to scatter crowds, none lethal but damn sore! i know i sertainly wouldnt want to take a hit from one!

just for info......... the calculation is

weight in grains times velocity squared divided by 450240

Weight in grains is grammes times 15.42
The answer is in foot pounds, so for a v ball weighing 1.2 grammes it's 1.2 X 15.42 X300 X300 / 450240 = 3.7 ft/lbs
. A 3 gram paintball comes out just under 10 ft lbs.
So how are these things meant to fly like a paintball?
As by the manufacturer you have to turn your velocity down significantly. You may as well use maltesers and check for chocolate marks.
Or sheep sh!t, as performance wise it's going to be similar.
