I woldn't have thougt speed would be an issue between the brand new Shocker and the Nerve - They both look so fast

Shocker being closed bolt therfore it'll be slower or at least harder to feed fast.
no problem with a halo B though ;)

This has been discussed before and this is what I posted before:
---
Here's some information I found on smart parts new Nerve.
- It will be able to measure the pressure in the gas storage chamber.
- It will be able to measure the velocity.
- Based on these two measurements it will then adjust the dwell time and/or chamber pressure to make the marker shoot the desired speed.
Quote from the patent:
"Alternatively, paintball gun characteristics related to other operational parameters of the paintball gun could be dynamically measured and controlled to improve paintball gun operation. Among other things, firing rate could be optimized based on a firing history of the paintball gun and a dynamically determined present firing rate. Temperature sensors could be used to measure a current temperature and dynamically adjust gun parameters based thereon. A loading sensor could be used to identify loading problems and dynamically adjust solenoid valve dwell settings where necessary to ensure a sufficient load time. Still other uses for the dynamic feedback loop of this invention will be apparent to those skilled in the art."

Everything is based on their patent application, which can be found here: http://www.uspto.gov/patft/index.html
search for patent application number 20020170552
(I have posted direct links before, but the site seems to change causing the links to be wrong)
You may think the image is similar to the impulse, that is because it is the same image! Patent# for impulse: 6349711

wow, that's all pretty crazy and it seems like there are a lot of things to go wrong in that and teching it might be a nightmare.....

oh and joowon where do you play? Pev's i'm hoping.........

Yeah, I play at pevs most of the time. Which one do you play at? The one near Dulles or in Prince William? Occasionally I go up to Tenleytown in MD. Awesome fields up there man. Good to see a local, and a timmy shooter. BTW, have you seen the new LaSoya Timmys? HOOTTT!

Hmmm that velocity feature would need some considerable processing speed/power. Im curious how they will pull it off in the Nerve, or they've just patented the idea perhaps.

NNNway its a cunning plan to pretty up the impulse and sell it for big bux but we all know it will work. :)

As you say they have potentially just patented the idea for future use... but...

If they are going to measure the pressure in the gas chamber which chamber are they talking about? the Bottle, the LPR or a chamber in the gun itself. The easiest I would assume would be the bottle... make sure they add a reg similar to the AIR with the electonics fed thru to the marker itself. Not really sure about the Reg or a marker chamber to be honest or if its possible.

As for the velocity, I cant imagine for one minute that it will be measured in the traditional way ie with radar, I guess it will be a calculation based on the pressure, dwell time etc... That wont be accurate at all as far as I can see, after all we measure velocity at barrel exit. The velocity at the bolt (calculated) would probably be very different to the exit velocity due to gas release in ported barrels, paint to barrel match, weather conditions, barrel condition etc....

Now admittedly a self regulating marker would be very very cool, knowing that you would never have a hot marker again would be fantastic and take a huge amount of worry out of the game... but I think its a way off yet and not going to happen with the Nerve... I hope SmartParts prove me wrong.....

Welp I think WDP has at least one patent on the AIR for sure.

That would leave SP with the lpr pressure possibility. (Tho you can se that on the ANGEL abeit in the analog way.)
But I dont know how important that would be honesty.

Now for the more interesting stuff:

The Velocity measurement!!!

Since the Nerve supposedly have an ACE inbuilt (not apparent on the pics) you would need another measuring point to be able to calculate speed. And that would be the end of the barrel.

The information measured on theese points can be used to measure velocity and adjust (?) the dwell/whatever it needed to get to the desired range. But shooting at 16-17bps it would need mad CPU power to keep up.

Still Im damn curious!

Peace

Its potentially still not accurate as we need exit velocity, but thats beside the point....

I dont think that it would need "mad CPU power" to be honest... it just a calculation between the 2 points and something that the EBlade or any other ACE type thing does...
