Sliding and diving...

Anyone else agree that the amount of diving headfirst we seem to see nowadays it a little over the level actually required? It used to be, someone would dive, and you'd go "Wow. Way to work it". Now it almost seems compulsory for front guys (Or gals I guess) to dive into cover (Guess the major reason might be when you see it on video or in a mag, the guy knows his pics being taken).

I'll admit it has its place, when you need to get low, quick, to get under a line or paint or to get into low cover. But for all the times I've seen someone's hopper come off, barrel full of dirt, air system come away, MASK COME OFF, it doesn't seem to me the amount of diving you see nowadays matches the amount actually required. With a knee slide, you recover faster, your gun and head are up, etc.

Or is it just me?

In pro paintball it is necessary to go that extra mile to be the best. And the if thats the fastest way you can get into your cover then you can bet the best teams are gona be doing that. You can dive or you can slide but i think diving is faster. Plus it looks so cool.

i would rather dive as you can get low if there is uneven ground you are less likely to stop short and/ or hurt your knee, as i did.
so one split knee, 35 staples and 2 screws later i would saay i might be diving more, but as with anything it is personal prefrence and up to the person and the situation.
The only time i think it is wrong in saying all that is when someone dives over another player.... oh well. i just love the game and dont care how others play it, wether they are showboating or not so long as it is played safe and fair.:D

Just remember boys and girls diving and sliding into bunkers is fine, but Millenium rules say that if you disturd (move) the bunker you are eliminated, that is if the bunker comes off any of the pegs holding it down. It was intended for those who deliberately move the bunker but it still applies.

Your obviouly a back player, as Front guys, they all think they are God, they only move if people are watching, wait untill everyone is watchin if they are going to mug someone, then they will jog over , get the flag and sprint back, just to TRY an look good, but give "us" the option of gettin on our knees, or then the option of :: doing an impressive dive as mad as we can, to impress the three dads, an mum's on the netting, the more dangerous the better to hear those deep breaths of panic from the crowd or marshalls, is why "we" play paintball at the Front! Its an EGO thing!

or is tat jus me!!:D

I always felt that the difference between diving and sliding roughtly equates to the difference between US ans Euro ball.

Us Euro's types are used to playing on nice luch grass, where the knee slide is easier, and possibly quicker. Over in the US there big tourneys seem to be on harder/dryer/rougher ground, where I'm guessing the knee slides don't work as well (having slid over an exposed tree root back in the woods before I had knee/shins, I wouldn't slide on rough ground again).

Maybe it's me, but everyone have a good watch at Campaign - Euro teams favour the knees, yank teams favour the dive.

(and now I've said that, everybody will do the opposite  ;) )

Over here the chest dive is called

the Pro slide. You figure out why. :)
Depending on type of run and runner's technique the dive is faster but that's not only reason it's used. . .

Bud--glad to see ya back posting at your usual prodigious rates. :D

Who me?

I think you're refering to what we call the supermanslide over here.
Sliding....my thoughts: It looks good, and I do agree that some people do it even when it isn't required. Hell I've seen people bellyflop behind the most humongous bunkers, which hid them from any incoming paint ever since game on!
When you're running up to the fifty, to some tiny ass bunker, it may be a smart move to go face down, and do a superman. But when you are more to the rear, and your team needs all the guns firing that it can get, I'd say go on the knees. Personally I like watching a well executed knee slide into a bunker, allowing the player to instantly fire his marker the most. Russian Legion seems to be quite good at this one.
