Okay, new question. What is the general fascination most paintball players seem to have with collecting pics of themselves playing? You don't see hordes of photogs trying to turn a buck at youth soccer events or at little league baseball or even adult parks and recreation softball or flag football so why paintball?
first off why not ? as most of our sport is on a sunday and some events being over a few days.thurs,fri,sat.these are our holiday snaps :p i know that all the extra days i take off are for paintball.same with lemon she works saturday so has to take off more days.so whats wrong with having holiday snaps ? or how else would i remember every weekend that i have been balling this year.spent money on,had good times with freinds ?

also its good to see pics of your self playing.am i doing this right am i doing it wrong ? if there were no such need for pics of players, doing it right or wrong where would you the mighty PGI find all there amazing photos ? and also have some thing to take the piss out of (i point you towards PGI aug 06 page 27)
if we dont need photos baca then why is the latest PGI not in full script no pics, its a mag and we all like looking at the pics as well as reading the irticles.
so we need pics

Players are just players--unless they're wearing bikinis.

try telling that to lemon.its not that easy for a girl mate.she works dam hard to be acsepted as a baller.and not as a girl with a gat.so yes the was a bit of devotion on my part.for that i appoligise

1--why not indeed? But then why'd you feel the need to justify it every which?
2--so I take it you have a photographic record of every leisure activity you participate in as well as a catalog of your other adventures on weekends and the occasional bank holiday as well? If you like to take pics of yourselves playing paintball all well and good but that wasn't my question. I'm more interested in the phenomenon of players paying for pictures of themselves at events. First time, sure, I can see that--but over and over again?
3--these are (for the most part) the same players who'd rather cut off their thumbs than take seriously any criticism of their efforts, yes? And if you really believe still shots are gonna teach you anything, well ... You might as well try selling swamp land or perhaps hawking discount paintball adventures downtown.
4--not even close to the same thing. There is a difference between illustrating a magazine dedicated to paintball and collecting personal vanity shots.
5--two points here. One, when players are kitted up it's difficult to differentiate gender. And, Two, aren't you contributing to the claimed lack of acceptance of girlie ballers by making the distinction part of your thread requirement? In posting this particular tribute you are recognizing and reinforcing the very thing you claim to dislike. Or so it seems to me.

I personally like seeing pictures of myself or teammates so we can take the piss out of one another, or "pretend" we look cool. I send some pictures to my wife from time to time, who shows them round her work and they all think i'm like some kind of hard nutter ;) helps for the image :D

Oi cheeky! :p

Bacca, I actually read into your first post what you say in your last (that calling a female player a player, rather than a girl with a gat is more flattering) so thanks for that :) but the photo thing I don't understand.

Football I can understand no one wanting photos of... it's just kicking a ball, boring in itself but probably not a sport you could get cool action shots from!

I used to ski, ride horses do judo and my brother used to ride motorcross. Both of us (and everyone we knew in these sports) were just as fond of seeing the photos after evey event as we are of paintball. This may well be vanity but it's definitely partly to check your form and show others that don't play the sport what it's all about. Not only that, we spend a fortune on this sport and want more than just memories for the trouble. I have seen my form improve over the last year just from looking at the photos!

As for our other adventures on weekends or bank holidays, we don't have any! Paintball is our life

Hope that's cleared it up for you, lol :D

Lemon,
I think you and lump are taking my curiosity about peeps fascination with having pics of themselves playing too personally. If you guys want to fill up album on top of album with pics of y'all playing ball then why not? My only objection--and one not strong enough to warrant removal--was that the thread seemed merely an excuse.

What I find curious is peeps interest in paying for pictures of themselves playing paintball, time after time, event after event, when, for the most part, you seldom if ever see similar interest from peeps engaging in recreational sports of other sorts. Hence, my point you don't see professional (or even wannabe or weekend pro) photographers taking pictures at recreational football (or futbol) and then trying to sell the pictures to the players. (At least not over here.) So why paintball? And it isn't purely a cultural thing as we have plenty of the same over here.
I just find it kind'a odd but then I hate it when the magic box tries to steal my soul.;) :)

Not true, I used to play a reasonable standard of football and enjoyed seeing pictures of myself in the local papers turning a player, having a shot etc and having a little write up on myself. You can have as many action shots in football as in paintball including a ball smashing in some ones face:D

My response Baca is it’s a little bit of history of sports/events you have participated in and when we eventually hang up our boots (hope that day does not come soon) it will allow us some memories. Imagine the cost over the years and not adding to the cost with a single photo to document the event next to a trophy.

I personally am a bit vain and also enjoy helping promote the sport a bit by purchasing photos which in turn may give the photographer a small income which may also give him/ her reason to come back and snap some other players and help advertise their team and sponsors.

I agree with the ‘vanity’ aspect of having and wanting photos of ourselves playing paintball – (but it must happen in every sports – even Steve Davis must have a couple of photos tucked away somewhere showing him with a cue in his hand before he made it to the bigtime)
But we all must have done this …. Seen a picture of ourself somewhere on the net and e-mailed the web address to all and sundry – yes you may be falling on your ass, or just been gogged BUT you STILL show it to your mates - for a laugh and the ‘very very’ slight feeling of “yeah I’m on the World Wide Web”.:D
Secondly, you tend to show ‘your better pics’ to Non-ballers - friends, family and work colleagues who know that you go paintballin but still think it’s crawling around in the undergrowth in a wood somewhere AND surely opening peoples eyes to sup air can only be a positive thing.
We should show the photos to anyone who is willing to look at them – Christ, Ive got a couple of photos of me (albeit cowering behind a bunker) on my office wall and its got a few more people interested the sport – hopefully that’s a good thing – I’m positive if I had a photo of me sat in Church on a Sunday morning instead with a hymn book on my lap it wouldn’t get as much interest.
We are trying to get it recognised as a true sport (aren’t we?) and to do this more money will need to be invested by sponsors, but they wont invest if their goods are not advertised to the public – by tv, pictures, web etc so there is a NEED for photos and photoghraphers.
Finally – I agree with Lump 100% - Its what WE do at the weekends – its proof that WE enjoy what we do at the weekends - Its what WE spend our hard earn cash on – so bring on the cameras I say and let it open more peoples eyes to the sport.

Rant Over - Sorry for boring you guys
