Paintball is all about the shineys. I have to much gear and can field 3 players head to toe in equipment, and still have spares.

I impulse buy or see things that are just too cheap to resist.

That said I love the wheeling and dealing on here and can't give that up.

Now must stop looking at the classifieds !!

Why worry, the average playing life of a paintballer is less than 3 years from the time they decide to get their own gear and become serious to the time they're selling up.

Says the man who's been on here 3 years longer then me

But it's true.
The majority of this forums target audience are young players who start up, get serious, play tournaments, sell up and move on
Some because they have their fun and move on, some because they are funded via parents or part time work with disposable income, life and more expenses arrive and paintball can take a backseat or end

Some people stay for the long run, some return later in life when the disposable income returns

Paintball takes money to play, and it is in our nature to enjoy spending

I did say average, and it's not just young players. I could probably name 30 people that were on the scene for a couple of years then disappeared.

I think it's the same with any hobby really. I was into Warhammer 40K when I was younger and there was a similar mentality with that in that no matter how much stuff you had, there would always be something else that caught your eye that you just had to buy.

I've heard it referred to as "natural wastage". Can't be avoided, just mitigated by having an equal or greater influx rate of new blood... :)

I think paintball definitely does attract people who'll try it once, decide they love it, go online and see all the amazing, shiny, cool looking kit they can buy and then decide that they need to spend £600+ and become a professional. Then, after a year (or less) they come to the end of their fad and want to move on to spend money on some other hobby. However, this does benefit the rest of us. They often buy brand new, top notch kit, which a year later they sell to us at a cut rate price, hardly used. Also, they pump money into the paintball companies by buying all this kit. The companies can then spend this money on research and trying out new things, as well as sponsoring teams/events, and so advance the sport
