I still think though when you see the pics of players wearing the tops that they certainly look to provide a duvet type efffect, I accept that when laid out the top wouldn't stop a ball but with a bit of air behind the padding.....

Paul.

I am suprised......

Russel,

Do you think then that the NPPL will not enforce the following one of their rules:

6.27 Padding in Garments will be limited to elbow, forearm, knee, shin, & hips, provided that the padding has not been modified from the manufacturer’s original form. Any other soft padding in garments is prohibited.

Clearly the new Dye shirts would fall foul of that rule.

And then there is this in the Millennium rules:

5.04. Players may not wear jackets and or pants, which are made out of highly absorbent material, such as felt or fleece, or of a highly padded or slick nature, such as nylon or rubber. If a player is found to be wearing such material then he will be required to obtain and wear suitable replacement clothing.

And that exact rule is found in the PPS rulebook too.

Glad to see that the Series2003 (and therefore the UKPSF) is trying to keep aligned with the 3 biggest tournament series in the world!

If there is a 1% chance that the padding will prevent a ball breaking then you, surely, have to ban it - thats kinda the point of having rules.

I agree 100% with you scutty!

And yes before anyone asks I have seen and felt the tops in person.

Can see alot of teams having 1 strip for domestic tournaments and another for Millenium events cos I really can't see them being allowed, but hey, no doubt it'll come down to 'paintball politics'

Paul.

I'm with Paul and Scutty, I don't think the NPPL or Millennium are being stupid, far from it.

The fact there is any padding whatsoever in a place that does not require it for a safety reason falls foul of the rules, the spirit of the game and general common sense IMHO.

And yes I have seen the tops in person.

To me, this smacks of not upsetting the teams that have already bought them so you don't reduce numbers attending your events and it's a "lesser of 2 evils" choice for you, I just think you've made the wrong choice.

One further point

If you are going to allow the Dye tops, are you going to allow players to wear elbow pads underneath - because then they would have 2 layers of padding on one of the most exposed parts of the body (playingwise that is!).

Can anyone say 'Designer Cheating'?
