I don't think not being able to train on the field prior to the event was the only "setback" for RL

after all
the matchoutcomes of RL games are also for a big part the result
of their non playing staff,
so i bet their scouts have since the event started been doing their work methodically, as usual
and have dissected all gameplans of their upcoming opponents

So they will be prepared by now :)

Well when something around 75% of the players and the refs have no idea what the Cold War was or exactly who was involved I think I can safely say it's unlikely to have much of an impact.
You guys crack me up, you really do. Despite us being the ugly, nasty, rotten Americans for the most part we couldn't care less where you come from as long as you can play the game. Teams like RL and the Nexoids enjoy a lot of popularity. If you play better and win, good for you. You guys are the only ones who ever make a big deal outta where somebody comes from and the sooner you get that gigantic chip off'n your collective shoulders the sooner you might actually stop making excuses and start playing.

And no, that obviously doesn't apply to every Euro player or team, blah, blah, blah, but if the shoe fits--wear it!

Thank you for your reply Baca.

My question was based on the way we (the Netherlands) perceive sport and the way i have
experienced bias and aggression through the years (in many types of sports)

Don't get me wrong but the USA/Soviet rivalry i only used as one of the biggest cliches.

I was wondering about this because the US has a larger (better in my opinion) sport culture
(highschool and such) if the sense of sports rises above all.

As an example i have never seen riots in a baseball stadium, here in Europe we bash each other
heads in even if it is the junior soccer team from down the street.

Next to this i was also wondering how the Divsions in X-Ball are made up with judging staff.
Are there teams reffing with a paid headref or is it done differently, i never read anything about how
this is structured.

The people much more qualified to answer this are obviously right in the middle of doing their jobs. I don't know if they are doing it now but for the World Cup PSP plan to have paid professional head refs for all Division X Ball, a combination of teams reffing for points and who get paid and paid pros. The old NPPL and now PSP have always had a combination of teams reffing for points + money and refs who do it just for money.

(BTW: I'm working with them to find qualified Europeans to ref X Ball at the World Cup and they're putting together a program.)

Exciting game coming up...

The Russians have been in the finals against Dynasty how many times in recent years?

Damn, I'd pay for the telephone calls for a point-by-point!:(
