Had about 20 ballers ringing me tonight asking me why there machines are shutting down with an Remote Procedure Call error when running windows 2000 or XP. Basically there is a flaw in the security of these operating systems that let people remotely fook up ya machine.

If your having the problem download the relevant file from here and install it :)

http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/security/Content/8205.html

Prey your machine stays on long enough to let you though :(

Hope this is of help to some of you.

Dave

PS Also suggest you get some sort of fireall on ya machine to try and prevent it happening again. :)

Yeah, i had it. Or the virus that is going around exploiting it anyway.

Coreflood, backdoor.apdoor, kdoor.apdoor ect ect....

Will write up a fix if any of you have it. Turn on XP's firewall if you dont have one.....should help a little.

mmm now this is strange coz i was just about to post asking for some computer type help

yesterday my outlook express gave me a wierd message and shut itsself down a couple of time so i restarted the comp and it was fine....earlier today my keyboard locked and sorted itsself

now the prob i have is that when i open emails that have hyperlinks in them, ie stuff from this forum (havnt had anyother mail to test yet) the links dont work when i click on them,

i have been into control panel to the add/remove software bit, was going to reinstall outlook, but the whole add/remove software bit is apparently not there and the close button in the bottom of the box that pops up is labeled 'cl&ose'

i have just ran a full virus scan and that came up 100% clear

any ideas anyone

Antivirus software update, i'd change to outlook 2002 anyway, express is crap.

Its always best to visit the site of the scanner, cos im guessing you have symantech scanner? Not exactly the quickest to update :)

I had this at a clients the other day. Have you got the latest service packs installed for your version of Internet Explorer?

Also to be on the safe side I would manually run your Norton AV live update and do a full scan just in case.
