Recruitment Drive

2--Is it wierd? Bet your ass. Probably more so to us than any "outside witnesses" who come to the event. They already have this notion of us that includes us getting ready to shoot at people with real guns. The contrast can't hurt, though. Paintball is what it is.
1--answers Teej's original question. No, it's not weird. I've been to probably hundreds of sporting events at high school, college and even pro level where a color guard displayed the flag for the singing of the national anthem.
NPPL HB sang the anthem before the finals. This is one extra step in the process of making all the paraphernalia around the tournament into a "traditional" sporting event.
2--y'all are just too hung up on the backwoods warrior thing. This has no relation to that at all and the vast majority of people who will be introduced to tourney PB in Vegas won't have a clue.

Clutching at straws, but...

Robbo might see other big shaven men in uniform, figure he'd look good in one and sign up?

All they are likely to do is have a booth set up with a couple of recruiting officers on hand to answer questions and hand out information. It may seem curious to y'all but it's pretty ordinary and low key really. They visit high schools, college campuses, hang out in malls--more or less go where they expect to find possible recruits.

And heres a tip..If your not interested in joining the military dont appease them by giving your name and number..Recruiters have monthly quotas to meet and they pretty much will do anything to get your signature on the sign up sheet...

They should advertise on Smacktalk then, ideal territory...well, bar tha college bit.
Actually the military's standards these days are way too high to even consider the typical Smack poster.
As to Robo, he's outta luck too. It's an age-ist thang. :p No reason he can't play dress-up though. :D

Tj, I don't know who you are but you continually come on this
site and in the mag start crap that should be left alone. I will
remind you of the article about Dynasty. Yes it is a bit of fun
but it is in bad taste. Here in the States any time that the
Marines present the colors they do a recruitment booth at the
event they are attending. It is not like a used car dealership
where it is a high pressure sell to get someone to join. They
simply hand out their material and try to get names to call
when they return home. I don't have anything against them
or the war but don't put them down for anything they do. They
have gone in harms way for generations and you or any one
else out there has no right to say anything bad about them.
As for presenting the Colors at a sporting event it goes to
show how far WDP, The NPPL, and Pure Promotions to pay
attention to detail. The few moments it takes to honor the
RED, WHITE, and BLUE is nothing to joke about, It's the lives
that have been lost to save that flag that allow each and everyone in the USA play paintball.

I hope the moderator of this thread pulls the whole thing down.

Couple of things, repairman. You are absolutely entitled to your opinion and this Forum values any and all reasonably thoughtful and passionate opinions. But the same applies to everyone else.
I don't think Teej intended to do anything more than bring up the topic out of curiosity. If he had something else in mind--given he's a Commie, Pinko, Green, Maoist Vegatarian (no, really, he is)--that's okay too. It was offered in a paintball context.
I chose to respond with info and context. Others can respond if and how they want.
Perhaps your view of Teej is colored by past aggravation. ;) Don't worry, be happy. :)

PS--You may not agree or even like some of what you'll find on the Forums (I certainly don't) but you also won't find a better PB place to go. Besides, I have a soft spot for agitators and malcontents.:D

Yeah man..

They're even letting me post, so you should be safe. ;)

I don't see the big deal. Sponsors sponsor events to sell stuff. Fuji wants to sell film, Budwieser wants to sell beer, Marines want to sell careers in the military. You have an event that mainly appeals to people in the high school->college age range, which just so happens to be exactly the group the Marines are interested in.

Nobody complains when the marines set up at a college football game. And anyone who sees a tournament paintball game and thinks that has ANYTHING to do with the military...

Well, they're just not right in the head. I don't think there are any brightly colored, inflatable standing river rafts in Iraq or Afganistan.

If anything, the fact that the Marines are there should tell you that they AGREE that there isn't an association. I would imagine they'd be very hesitent about being at, say, an airsoft tournament, if there is such a thing. Then THEY have to deal with the flack from "sponsorig training kids to shoot at each other", which I'm sure they don't want either. I'd be much more worried about sponsorship from a spnosor who promises to help you get drunk than one who promises to give you a career and a college education.
