Questions about a good Scenario Gun..

Equinox

Go Ball Deep!!!
Well.. am not long back from Staargate, and it went great, my ion worked fine (with a bit of tweaking..)

one thing i noticed, some of these "scenario gamers" with replica guns.. (id imagine they were armoteks or other similar ones..)
had immense range whitch sometimes gave them a real advantage against other players..

im interested in picking up some scenario kit for big games like staargate and others..

just wondering if anyone could offer me any advice on what would be worth getting for range and accuracy..

here is something that caught my eye..

An armotec WS66 (R.I.S)
http://www.armotech.co.uk/ws-66_RIS.html

anyway..
A few things im unsure about..

Do the Hop Up Barrels give much greater range over conventional markers??

Whats a "Built In WS-Mag Kit"??

and finally, I realise these guns are Mechanical rather than electronic triggers, but what sort of BPS are they capable of??

Does anyone know the difference between their "Rifled Barrels" on the WG series, and their "Hop Up" barrels?

and what does a "barrel Extension" do?? (looks like a silencer..)

Also.. some of them come with a 4x32mm scope. and a laser sight. does this help at all?

also, if anyone has any other suggestions of suitable scenario kit, or any way to get increased range from a conventional marker, please feel free to post..

We had a smiliar question recently on the SW forums, and all of us said to him - get an Ion. Why the hell get an A5?!

Range and accuracy are achievable through factors you determine on your current gun. Bore match of paint to barrel is what largely determines accuracy, and range is simply velocity - no more, no less. Turn your reg up (no further than 300 fps, obviously)

Tippman Flatline's and stuff are just gimmicks - ignore it - the further you shoot it, the less accurate it is anyway.

Mech markers = 3 bps - maybe 4 if you have a nervous twitch

scopes and sights - paintballs just aren't perfectly spherical and therefore there's no point. The best thing to do is sneak up REALLY close and shoot them in the ass

^^^^ completely ^^^^dont believe any of that armotech crap although the flatline will give you longer range - or maybe buy the new tippman apex barrel - as much as i hate ions they kick the crap out of armotech so dont waste your cash you wont get better than a tournament gun for pace and accuracy (sp) -

you may have guessed that i cant stand armotech and all the military crap they stand for but what im saying is not part of that bias - thats why theyve started blue tacking stocks on to ions now and selling them on.

agreed, your ion is fine....if you want to dress it up to look more military then that is poss but dont drop it in favour of something that is the same at best.

flatline barrels in my experience whilst they do give more range, the paint doesnt have enough energy to break once it gets there so there is little point....the apex barrel does look fun! can shoot round corners with it!!

dont get me wrong, i like my ion, just i found that many people were getting much better range than me, and im not sure what i can do about that...

(and ive had nothing but trouble with it since i bought the damn thing...)

what barrel are you using with it...that is probably the source of the problem.

you tend to find that a lot of players will happily spend cash on things they dont need when all they need is their marker setting up propperly!

if someone is shooting further than you then chances are:
a: you have a bad paint to barrel match therfore are loosing accuracy and range
b: you are running a lower velocity than them, eather you are running low or they are hot. only way to check this is on a chrono

try google for the apex....as far as im aware they are not tornie legal in the states, but they are ok over here....hehe they yanks cant handle people shooting round corners at em!

oh and running a slightly low velocity is sometimes an advantage depending on what position you play.....bet im not the only front player that takes 20fps off so i can drop shots over the top of the back bunkers

Equinox mate,

If you want the extra range, get an Apex. I played with one all of Staargate and loved it. At absolute maximum range, yes, you may not always break on target but that moment when they realise you can reach out and touch them when they think they are safe is priceless. It's not as picky as a flatline about paint and you can get them in Ion threading. The hookshots and dropshots are a bit of fun but mostly you will use the distance settings
Fat Bob's has some in stock for £115 ( Not SP threading as yet AFAIK).

Unless you particuarly like the milsim look of the Armotech style markers, you aren't getting much for your money.
Some of them come e-gripped and can get decent rates of fire, but your Ion will outperform them most times.

Hillbilly milsim may look cool but..

1) its eventually gona get banned.

2) Armotechs are use SPYDER internals so are about as efficient, reliable and good as a SPYDER...ie. not alot.

3) The 66 hop up barrel loves breaking paint.

4) They are too slow and kick alot.

etc etc etc

The SW stopped using thier armotechs and all got A5s/started using em because they broke down alot.

The barrel exstention does absolutely feck all but add to a uber heavy marker already.

If you want range...get an A5 with a flatline or buy an apex barrel.

Range and accuracy dont come hand in hand you either really have one or the other at extremes.

If you want to make the most of ur ion get a freak kit so you can paint to barrel match to achieve best accuracy and efficiency.

Range isnt the end all be all in paintball.
