They!? Oh, we know who they are

I agree that this thread does appear to look like a one or two person posting from some of the "informed" postings (Baca Loco is off the hook now, if only cos they are a Mod now)

A thought, although this thread is in the Tournament forum (a lot of people don't read this section), can this thread be duplicated in the Speak your brains as well..Mods?

Mark,
I think if you re-read Chowderhea--uh, Superbeef's prior post he was referring to the thread on SmackTalk about Chitown prize packages and not this thread.:)

As to duplicating this thread elsewhere. Since you have asked your wish will be granted.

PS--what do you mean Baca Loco is off the hook now, if only cos "they"? What am I, some sort of Legion of Moo, or perhaps suffering multiple personality disorder in your estimation?:D

Hahaha well I thought "they" was a safer way, cos I do believe I have worked out who you are (not for divulgence on here methinks) and anyhow you do have the "conspirsy R us" bit in your sig so I was reffering to you not being a multiple personality/user name poster as was inferred about others who have posted in this thread.

You and Robo--geez. This is all ancient history. Somewhere in the Speak your Brains forum is the whole ugly, boring truth. I assure you it ain't worth the effort to find but if you want go for it. (Or perhaps I've now reached back and edited it all out?)

We have college teams fly to tournaments to win a trophy - or just to play. Again, prizes ONLY attract teams that think they're going to win.

I see where our thinking diverges--I don't play any event without the intention of winning regardless of the eventual outcome.
I think perhaps you and Tyger would get along famously.:)

As to prizes, they entice teams with the possibility of what they might win. Not unlike playing the lottery.

As to NPPL/PSP prize packages--what offends those who are offended isn't so much the quality or lack thereof of the prizes themselves but the perception that the promotors have so little regard for the players who are participating that they'll just toss off any old thing to them and call it a prize.
prizes are nice but i don't think that they really only attract teams that think that are going to win. i can say 2 teams who play the temple series (thats in the UK) who play because they want to play - these are the University of Portsmouth and Tsunami (no offence to these players) - they play to win, but don't care if they win or lose. there are various reasons why they don't care:-
1) playing is fun
2) in the novice level the prises are fairly basic
3) we don't train really enough due to the costs
4) paintball is fun (i know i said it twice but it is true and this is why most novice players play)

going on to another topic in this thread teams often don't move divisions due to players often move - take team X who are pro, some of their players retire or move team, they may get another pro form another team but it doesn't fill the rosta, so they look at am players to invite them to a trial, so an am teams lose players to pro, this means that the ams have to rebuild slightly and they would not want to do that in the pros and they don't want 'their heads handed onto their plates'. the ams then look for replacements from either other ams on from novices. so novices lose players so get in friends or player form other novs whose team has collapsed.
this motion of play is seen in football, rugby and most team sports that have divisions. most teams stay in their division with a couple moving up and down, but have players often moving.

now the player form the american collages paintball, surely you know that in university paintball teams there will be new players every year due to some graduating and freshers replacing them. these freshers might not have played before so need training. so say your team won everything last year, people may say thay you should go up a division, but you lost 4 from your rosta due to them graduating, you have to replace them and train the new players up, would you really want to do that from a higher division. if you have not thought of this problem then i assume that your team is only a few years old or that the players on it have spent too much time playing paintball and have not passed their exams and are repeating their year.

Well, this is just plain silly now. See what you've done, Mark? I hope you're ashamed of yourself.:D

Hey you didn't have to bite, email would have done, good see the thread duplicated though, knew it would get a better response in "brains"
