Just a couple of points to raise. Cumulative microtrauma in the muscles certainly can occur after running and a protein shake can be every bit as useful for a runner as for any other kind of athlete. As pointed out by about 3-4 people. Protein shakes are really for weight training only and not for your average runner / athlete which technically you should be looking towards for paintball. (my opinion!)
Protein shakes just help repair muscles after 'ripping' them at the gym. Not what you need for running
The only thing to gain speed really is a good diet and training. Again as pointed out this doesn't come over night.
People also mentioned creatine...the normal which is not a good idea considering it actually increases water retention. Makes people look bigger then they actually are Also the powder form can't be mixed with anything and taste's disgusting.
just read through all the replies and by far this quote hits it, the basis of all performance is a hard foundation of real fitness, this will help your performance on field or at training by miles, dont just assume you can sit on your ass all week and eat pizza, and down a can of redbull on a sunday morning and slay everthing put in front of you.Shakes, energy bars, energy drinks, steroids, all fine and dandy, but what you'll still need (as Matski pointed out in his post) is proper training, first and foremost.
All that stuff won't do jack for you if you don't back it up with hard work.
As others have said, protein won't do anything at all for fitness or bleep tests. - It's the training that does it.do you think protein shakes would help your performance on the bleep test and things like that?
and what shakes are the best for this?
Well entire medical journals can, and have been written on that subject. Depends if you're talking about orals, injectables, playing with your insulin levels, GH etc. A lot of what damage is done depends on how well you do your PCT or Post Cycle Therapy. Plenty of times some know-nothing kid gets on a cycle of Dianabol, puts on about a stone in water then ends up with gyno. The bodybuilding pros have teams working with them when it comes to their, err 'supplements'. There are still side effects, but much time and effort is spent on minimizing them by the use of other substances.out of interest anyone know ho wmany different steriod types there are and witch is "the best"?, there must be a reason that Arny and Mr Olympia havn't die or had their hair fall out whilst symoltaniously losing all their sex drive?
