Across the field? Baring in mind that a paintball loses a ton of velocity even after 10 meters, so this guy must have been shooting at a seriously high fps, or the lens was cracked slightly before hand, or you are embellishing this story somewhat :)
he told me it was from across the field :p

I marshalled field 1 in the morning and did the chrono, i can catagorically state that all markers chrono'd were within the 300 FPS limit and any that went over were told to go turn the marker down and return for chrono, im sure this was the standard right across all 4 fields at the CPPS on sunday.

So like the rest have said, dont worry to much about pots popping, these things happen :)

In a Shrubbery
I've had a crown blown off my rotor as well and you've seen the thickness of them it's at least .5 mm of plastic

Just to chime in and agree, Ive seen this many times. Even saw Ollie Lang once break out, and I think BC was behind him. Ollie goes to make a move, and a ball from BC goes through his hopper lid, and into the hopper. Musta made quite a mess! Regardless, he finished the game in style :)
...so he played on?

I, like alot of people it seems, have seen it a few times... i've used a locklid for target practise a few times and shot the bottom out of them. Ive seen pods broken and iv'e seen the shell of a Halo Too with a hole straight through it. none of the markers were over 300 fps.

Not at all. The other guy was shooting pots at 300fps from across the field. Full ones.
