Playing trousers - why don't they do this??

Problem with padding as part of the pants is that it can move around easily. And that's something you don't want padding to do, it should stay in one place, thight on the body.
Even the paintball specific padding has a tendency to move around.

If you want knee protection that stays in place, have a look at any site that sells American football gear. They have so called padding shorts that have these pockets for thigh and knee pads, which will keep the pads in place all day long.
Plus your girlfriend will think you are dead sexy in spandex, though your friends might frown a bit...:p

Buddha, that's the beauty of this though, if you don't like the 'floating' style padding of these trousers you don't have to have them, simply remove them ;)

Anyone have any contacts in the fabrication industry?

Problem with having 'Pockets ' for the kneepads is that your pushing the cost of manufacturing thru the roof, esp. since you're going to be using expensive fabrics to start with, and combined with lots of triple-stitching/extra QC and a limited market to boot, you'd be lucky if you could get these to retail under £150!

Unless you get them made outside of the EU (i.e. China) but then you're committing to a LOT of outlay as most Chinese Factories don't deal in units less then 10,000 minimum.

10,000 would be peanuts when dealing with the US market though :) One of the big companies like Empire could do this easy - just look at the Dye C4's, they aren't too far from the mark...

True, but the C4's use intergrated padding which is far less work for the effect desired.

I actually tried to make something along the lines you are suggesting a couple of years ago using work's facilities, but even after copying the basic pattern from a pair of Pants we sell, the extra work involved in trying to get removeable knee pads intergrated was far too much to make them ever commercially viable:(

Fixed Kneepads on the other hand were dead easy:D And if I could find the pattern again, I'd probably get a few pairs made up:cool:

One idea that I never fully tested that you might be inclined to try:

Cover the entire front of the Pad in Velcro hooks and the knee section (inside) of your pants in Velcro loops - might work:confused:

Would be a bitch to remove tho and even Velcro loops aren't that comfortable against your skin when the pads aren't being worn.

Disclaimer: Don't come crying to me if this doesn't work - I gave up on the idea for a reason:p

possible way to stop knee pad section flapping away from knees is a small sleeve of spandex either above or below the knee to hold the trouser in the right place.

What about velcro on sections of padding or extra material ( players choice as there are the two options) onto the outside of the knee- if done in the same style as moterbike sliders they should hold in place without difficulty- this way if you hole em you just velcro on a new section of fabric or pad

Also belt loops are a must- big baggy troos with a belt

Only problem with using a Lycra/Elastene collar is the Pants will bunch around it - esp. if you have fairly rigid pads either above or below it, this will make the Pants hang around the collars and will look odd (and no ballers gonna want to look funny;) )

The Velcro on the outside is great in theory, but after just a few slides, the hooks and loops will get dirt/mud/paint in them, reducing their holding power significantly, and over the course of a Tournament could end up not being able to hold the pads in place at all.

Sorry if I'm coming across as really negative, but like I said earlier, I spent a lot of time trying this with very little success:)

Whatabout the velcro loops on the inside, and an inner pad that is more of a very thin cover comes stock. So you have the velcro hooks backed by a thin soft layer, that can be replaced by a thicker layer of padding. A problem is that the thin layer becomes redundant, but it could be a work around.
