Can playing in the rain damage your gun in the long run?
No.
Unless you never wipe it down
To elaborate - getting your gun wet does not hurt it
Getting the electricals wet does not hurt them unless they get short circuited
The board may be coated to protect the circuit, the battery should be inside behind a cover, and is probably vertical with a plastic insulator on top covering the connection

Unless you submerge it in water it will be fine, if you don't put it together properly and have gaps in the body then water can get in more easily

I have had two guns suffer in the wet, firstly my blackheart board on my ion died at the first sennybridge game, but temperatures did drop to -14c, and following last years timewars in torrential rain my dam subsequently became temperamental. I was soaked through and it was soaked through. It began to randomly go into programming mode when switched on.
Dye tech sorted it for me at paintfest this year, first by resetting everything, but due to an intermittent eye error also replaced the board as well just to be sure
