Err.....the point of an eye system is that it sits at the open breech to stop - if required - the bolt from closing over the feed tube without a ball being seated.

Thats the same for all guns..open or closed bolt chap You don't have the eye's on a cocker poking into the first 1/2 inch of the barrel "cause that's where the ball is"

What about the ball detents? perhaps they are the reason the covers extend further forward, that would be my guess.......
