How are we supposed to believe that, you have 'Fake ID' written on your sig and under your name......
I think you do 'em more damage by supporting them. Nice.

Taunton, south west
reasons for leaving:

1. marshals were having a ten minute break before most games.
2. we were made to play during a freak storm, which nackered two of our guns (by the way thankyou to whoever it was who moved our kit out of the way of the leaking staging area)
3. for a tourney that only had 9 teams it was allowed to run nearly 3 hours behind scedule
4. marshaling was not biased, just non existent. a good mugging ended with both players being taken out so did a poor one.
5. we had a long way to travel home some as far south as exeter and some as far north as darlington.

and we wernt playing bad, so its not a case of sore losers (we won two and lost two, and had a transit 'cos one of our players cant run!!!)this is the first time any of us has ever packed up early and to be honest i never thought i would!!!

and to top it off we were asked four times in the space of about 10 minutes for our entry fee, as if we were going to do a runner!!!!!!!!!!

this post may upset a few people, but you did ask;)

Thanks for the reply Russ.

I realise that you're sticking your neck out putting your opinion in writing. I hope everyone can respect that and this does not dissolve into a slanging match.

I fully appreciate the efforts the organisers and marshalls went to to stage an event for us to play, but unfortunatley my team Swarm felt the need to withdraw after sufferring approx 6/7 bad calls in 5 games. It was really not happening out there for us! Shame really, because we too had travelled a long way.

PS. I moved some kit to get it out of the weather - guess that was probably yours then ! If so, you're more than welcome buddy.

)

Yeah yeah, glory boy. It was the Monkey Love guys that moved the kit, and the marshalling wasn't the best, if i am not mistaken their were a couple 'fresh' faces to the marshalling scene. No harm done, you have to learn somewhere. I know i was terrible my first time, in fact i still am.
Lessons learned on that day are...
Never play a tourney that sells 'site' paint. (I look like i have a bad case of Ring worm.)
Never play front without the correct padding.( See above.)
Never drive 4 hours to a tourney that only has 9 teams playing.
Never forget your kit when hangin' with teammates.( there is always a tourney/training/punterhunt going on somewhere.....)
Anyways, thanks for the opportunity to travel far and play light, see you all down south for Dartford 7's??;) :p

Dude - he aint tall! Thats me! :D

Gotta be said - (And sorry to those SPC guys that i've known for a few years) that last leg was possibly the worst tournament I have been to for a long long time. Possibly the worst Sup'Air ever :(

For the southerners - i can only compare it to the early days of the Temple 5-man but sadly worse!

Now alot (if not all) is due to support of the series. Only 9 teams meant only one field (and even this, in my own opinion, was very poorly designed - nearly every game went pretty much to time, don't think I saw one fast paced game).
Having one field just made the day very repetitve and boring, however I understand that 9 teams aren't going to pay for the hire/marshalling of more.

As for the marshalling - I think the atmosphere of the teams rubbed off on these guys too - first few games all seemed well but long before lunch some marshalls just stood around not responding to calls - let alone using the initiative to check players when they were taking paint.
In their defense - boring games = boring marshalling (even more so) and they were mixed with a heat wave followed by hail storm followed by heat wave! Not the best of conditions.
However - as jnr/shock mentioned - 10 minutes between EVERY game - and well over an hour for lunch was just pathetic :(

All in all, for me, I will not be making the 3 - 4 hour trip again in the near future (I'd be suprised if the SPC actually run the next event - i'd be suprised if they broke even at this last leg). It is a real shame to see, as the last time I was at Uttoxeter was for the Midland Masters sometime last year for a well run - great day out!

This time just felt like a bunch of ballers gathered for a BBQ some beers, and a bit of ball (without the BBQ or Beers).

It's your series guys - only the players can make it better, everything I have said I know 100% that the organisers can and have previousley proven to resolve, now they just need to know people want to play!

Good Luck!

I agree that the event was let down by the poor attendance, this is distressing to see especially when SPC bend over backwards to pander to the players needs.

If I were more suspicious I may have thought that the teams that were calling for the dates to be changed were only doing so to get out of the series without looking like the bad guys.
If this is the case then Im sure SPC would have preferred it if these teams came out and voiced their intentiones rather than asking for the dates to be changed, with no intention of actually turning up.

The marshalling was on the whole a high standard, I agree that one or two marshalls lacked experience but that was made up for slightly as the remainder of the marshalls were very experienced.
Also I did not detect a hint of bias no matter what team was playing. From what I saw Kellys players were treated in exactly the same way as other teams.

The field was pretty bad, it seems SPC insist on hiring David Blunkett to set the field up. Seriously give any experienced player 5 minutes with that field and they could have transformed it into an aggressive field that was fun to play and watch. As it stood it was pretty boring, with strong back line and 50's, and a huge deadspot in between. This gave the advantage to the teams who filled the back line and held the field.

Big up swarm however, who looked good pulling moves off the back of each other, even when the field didnt promote this style of play.

Cheers bud ;)

Personally, the field I thought was set out perfectly. Cheers DV8 for the field :)
In my honest opinion the 50 was short work, almost every game 2 of us were making the 50 bricks and getting there without paint. The work began past the 50, it was hard trying to make a move without getting shot. So most of the shooting had to be done from the 2 big bricks.
I have to say the least I was surprised when we played the div 1 teams, and at how close they were. Most of all interesting was the Kelly's game, look forward to possibly playing you guys again ;)
But for now respect to SPC, and all the teams there sunday!

I think that was half the problem with the field - the physical length meant that there was little or no impact of sweetspotting off the break, everyone seemed to make primaries which just led to very slow long balling games.

I can't honestly say I saw any aggressive movement all day (not suggesting I saw every game) but you just come to expect that from tournaments now.

Just slotting another 2p in tha machine :)
