nike wtf!

why would anyone want nike to b apart of the paintballing scene. they would get people involved hu do not care about the sport and hu only care about the social stature the sport gives.
i prefer the sport beeing small because it gives people hu are not usually gud a sport a chance to get some where with sponsering etc. but i supose it aint gonna happen coz some day nike or reebok will find out what a brilliant sport it is and have to get in on it some how...... but well sall w8 and c.

c ya on the field......

Why does it need to be tourney ball instead of rec ball as the image presented to the public? Well, everything Robbo said plus one major factor: recognizable faces. Every other major sport like tennis, football, basketball, boxing, golf, and racing bring stars to the forefront for the public to view and follow. Recball is faceless and presents no story to follow and no focal points. Sports in general sell because they present heroes and victories and people with whom the public can identify and embrace. The major outside companies who we want to attract need poster people. Nike's success has been largely propelled by its identification with the major stars that get people's attention like Michael Jordan, Andre Agassi, and Tiger Woods. To date, few if any attempts have been made at marketing paintball stars to the sports magazines and TV shows for interviewing. Instead, the chaotic screwball attempts like the ESPN world cup fiasco of years ago and 2am unadvertised random showings have been all there is to speak about.

It's all a popsicle stand in the Arctic until some serious people actually try to play ball on the level of real sports reporting.

You do not need to push "rec" ball, as everyone above says, thats what the public thinks paintball is.

Its the "tourny" ball that needs the help.

As for big companys, well anyone with the foresight and where withall to help promote and bring the "vision" of supair into the living room, would make a fortune.

Skateboard's were the in craze when I was a kid, and thats 20yrs ago. They are still selling the boards, but more importantly the gear that goes with them. And lots of it!!!!

1. I think there is a bit of confusion as to what people know paintball as. From people i deal with the opinion seems to be that its the whole woodland and gun thing. but they do seem to know that there is another level thats not in the woods, just that they know nothing about it!!

2. I feel people are starting to see us as a sport, this is the changing image of paintball and with time, publicity and education i see this continuing to become the accepted view.

3. Big corps are a good idea, but I feel it needs to come from within the industry first. Then follow in with the big boys. We have no chance of getting a outside party interested when we cannot agree on a rule book or format!!

4. Part of me says the extreme sport market is a good thing, whilst part of me says its better to take a larger yet less direct corp such as coke. At the end of it all any large sponsor will be good for the sport, direct or indirect :)

How can people get to know more about tournament piantball when the sites are not set up for spetators ,and so baddly sign posted that thay can not be found by travleing teams.
I went to watch a tournie in January when the only paintball I knew of was rec ball.
I had to take my own mask just to see what was going on. People were hard to talk to and it was almost inppossable to get any info from the one or two teams that did talk to us. I felt this was an insider sport and if you were not on the inside you were not welcome.
I thought the image then was more about the kit you had. I have left the woods and now get my ass shot off in tournies reguler and never looked back.
There dose not seem to be very many nasty people in paintball and if big money was on the table then the light harted way things are now would not last long.
I have seen very few arguments with the frefs who have a hard job now. Think of them if big money was up for grabs. kicking the crap out of a ref for there bad call would be common place and that would help the image no end.
The rules I thought they were made up on the day I did not know there was a rule book if so where do you get a copy that aplys to all games and is applyed by all refs.
Big money would be nice but at what cost to the games image and the single player. Would we see transfer prices creep in.
Tournie paintball needs to get organiced befor some one who is only in for the money takes over and every body gets stuffed. One team one captain, One tournie one ultimate so why not One sport one govening body. Then we can move forward. Untill then the fight gose on.

just had an idea... to late to do it this year but maybe next. There is an event in london that i go to every year called Urban Games: http://www.spriteurbangames.com which kinda promotes extreme sports and hold bmx, fmx and sk8 comps. Now what if a paintball tourney, a one off, was held there with some trade stands. It cud create so much interest to the general public. say the main tourney on saturday and finals on sunday. I think holding events like this along side big extreme sport events will deffo promote the sport.

what u think? :D

I think it would be a good idea to have a demonstration field set up at extreme sports events. Let's show people what sup-air is rather than always trying to describe it.
Holding a tourney may be a bit of a logistical problem but setting up a single sup-air field and having a load of teams come down to play a mini-tourney/demonstration games would be a bit easier to achieve.
