As said above you -can- do paintball, I decided against it as I wouldn't paintball near enough times to qualify :(.

The camping element is a laugh though, good luck finishing the award

Archery is almost certainly a target sport too as is cross country 'shooting' which, is a sport in the olympics.

There is still misconception of Paintball being solely a wargame pursuit - military wannabes running round in the woods, pretending to be soldiers

Good luck with the DoE award!

some good news.

i have had a reply from the operations officer and have been told this:

Paintball was looked at by our Skills and Physical panel a number of years ago and it was decided that it would not count as a Physical but could count as Life Skill under the Skill section for those participants just learning paintball as the learning curve is appropriate. The panels felt that for some participants who undertake this activity regularly there may be a limited amount of learning and some participants may not run around enough to qualify it as a Physical activity. This is the DofE standing on this activity at the moment.

the email also went onto say that if i could create a programme comprehensive enough i may be able to convince the panel that paintball is appropriate for the PHYSICAL side of the award not just the skills.

so off to work i go.:D

I think if you are playing sup' or x-ball or some kind of tournament format and you are training every week and you can show how much physical energy is needed to play all day and send this off to them.
Just like somebody said above that Paintball is still just a misconception when people think of Paintball they mostly just think of kids partys and stag do's down your local punter-site. Shame

Get in touch with some of the Nexus boys. Ask them to let you know a few of the drills they do when they train.. then do them yourself, then you can be classed as doing physical excercise for sure!
