Paintball, if it was a recognised sport.

This is where we all want paintball to go, hopefully.
Then why are we not doing anything to organise a structure within all the different tournament venues, with a view to a nationwide league.
As a country, we have a massive paintball community, and we have a lot of tournaments held all over the place. Let's get together and form a structure within the existing venues, that allows teams from all over Britain, the ability to compete in a league without having to travel the length and breadth of Britain to compete each month in a dedicated tournament series.

Surely no matter where in Britain the tournament is held you are still going to upset some people from the north, south, east or west... If the series or league was held accross the country, stretching from the north to the south would it not pose problems for the less mobile (or rich) team, and teams who are just starting up?

Are you suggesting that each area in the UK has its own league and from that the strongest teams are taken and compete against the other areas in a final tournament? (has this been tried before? )

Mother, is that you?
I'm confused... why do we need a league to be recognised? Golf, Tennis, badminton, squash, chess, darts, snooker... ok, I'm running low... but you get the idea.

Surest way to bankrupt british paintball? Run a national league.

No, i'm talking about a nationwide league, that is spread across the countries venues, with a set field layout and set rules.

good points tom-

maybe a southern and northen series or group of tournaments playing by the same rule book - and i mean identical. Then a points ranking system would put the top 4 teams from each division into a finals at a midlands location.

Best from the south v best from the north

or something along those lines

i think it's time a set rulebook was established that all tournies applied- no quirky rules, just one set. this would assist with continuity and players could play different leagues without falling foul of rules that are interpreted differently.

The millenium series rules have probably had the most effort put into making them as comprehensive as possible- and apart from a few trigger bounce rules that seem to be interpreted differently by different people i think it's a pretty good set of rules.

just my - well 50p worth

Not really, insted of each venue holding it's own series, the venues get together and run a national competition. No extra cost, just a bigger format.

Thought that was what the P.A. guys were trying to do.????

The only problem I can see, is that at the minute each series is organised by different people, and getting them to ALL work together and by the same rules will not be easy.

Plus some teams will not want to play in their own area.

Must be an 8th June thing AB ;)

I was going to mention the PA in my original post, as I thought it was aiming at kinda making a national league, but at present most of its legs are in the midlands (up north for us southerners :p)

I agree that the same rules do need to be applied accross the country, would make it a damn sight easier to understand if you are just used to the same all the time instead of chopping and changing.

So with a nationwide league are you saying that all the current tourney organisers hold a leg and the teams have to travel around the country?

The PA has started the ball rolling, we now need to enlarge this concept to cover all the main venues in Britain.
For paintball to get to the dizzy heights of a recognised sport, we need to get organised, and attract Joe Public.
It's the spectators that will help drag paintball into some sort of recognition, but as it stands, it's too confined to each event.
A nationwide league will give people teams to follow, from the start to the finish, and take paintball from the underground to the mainstream.
