I have fired them(kids paintball gun) and they dont go that fast...

You gotta pump the thing 20 times then fire it...and after 10 shots ya gotta pump again...

Their not sore but could still do eye damage....i wouldnt buy 1 for a kid or anything like that.:eek:

Even at very low velocity an eye can become damaged and eye's do not heal. Even a scratch will never go away and can cause vision impairment bad enough to become a major obstacle in life.

Whilst these 'toys' may be well intentioned it only takes a few incidences of irresponsible people using them to bring the spotlight down on paintball as a whole. Young children wont be to much of a problem but drunken 18-year old louts may (just a generalisation!).

Either the manufacturers and sellers didn't consider how these 'toys' can be misused or they considered it, didnt understand the implications and decided not to worry.

It would be nice to hear from the manufacturer\sellers to get their thoughts on the subject.

Here in Waco, Texas, sadly, most of the kids I deal with do not have adequate adult supervision. I worked an assault with a paintball gun two days ago and charged the suspect with a second degree felony punishable by 10 to 20 years. It fits the law technically, but the kids a Baylor student so I doubt it gets left that high. The only good thing that came of it is I got to explain to the victim that this is not what paintballers do. Nothing that fires projectiles of any sort should be sold to kids. Period. They can't appreciate the full implications of their actions because they don't have the brains for it, so of course they are going to injure each other or themselves. Then they will feel really bad about it and say it was an accident. These accidents are preventable by the adults in our society not giving kids access to the means of the accidents.
