Ginja - if you are going to use the thefts from the recent Reading NSPL event in your article, please contact me for accurate facts on the matter. It was two markers, not the higher numbers rumoured, though still unacceptable. Unfortunately, the thief is more likely to be a fellow baller than any 11 year old kids.
Also, generally to everyone who has contributed to this thread, I agree that the article makes some pretty wild statements about paintball, but I think it is important to remember that the actions of these 11 year olds and the idiots who sold paintguns to them are what has/will do the damage to paintballing, not the newspaper. Why the hell should the newspaper do indepth research in to paintballing for this small article which focusses on how a woman is upset about an assault on her daughter? They are simply quoting an individuals opinion and that individual is understandably pissed off with paintball. I think it is great that the paper has offered to publish an article about the other side of paintballing - props to them.
The underlying problem here is the uncontrolled supply of paintguns and paintballing equipment. These incidents bring attention to that problem and sooner or later, it is going to give us a right headache. Slagging off the newspaper and not really discussing the underlying issue on a public forum does not demostrate a responsible community attitude towards the problem if you ask me. And what if the newspaper (or someone else) picks that up and decides to run with another out-of-context story?
I guess my point is that we should be careful how we discuss these things in a public environment like these forums and not be so quick to lay the blame at the messenger's feet.
