as i have a secure job when i am 20, but i still have 4 years to survive.err.
A secure, guaranteed job in the future with no requirements for any qualifications not even basic school ones? I find it a bit hard to believe that it's going to be a highly paid one or one with good progression prospects.

Silly me. And there I was thinking that you actually have to do homework to understand stuff & get grades, that's partly what it's there for.
No such thing as guaranteed grades until the exams are over!

Hummmm....

Well. I never really paid attention at school. Luckily I have a natural ability of taking in things first time I hear them, and somehow I manage to remember it all when the time comes. I never studied at school, and managed to come away with B+C's.

Like you, my social life was not in a good ratio with my studying.... And it stills an't!

TBH, I don't give a crap about decent grades. I managed to get a decent job after finishing my Advanced GNVQ at college, and they send me on my HND in computing for free.

It’s all about experience not grades. You play your life the way u wanna play it, and if your parents don't like it, **** em.

I was lucky, my parents always encouraged me to do what I wanted to do, and they never held me back. Yeah, they gave me advice, but when I made a bad choice, they didn't oppress me for it.

You may interpretative their lack of "punishment" to be lack of caring, but I did confront them about this and we had a long talk about it.

People make their own mistakes, and if you an't allowed to, how the hell are you ever going to learn anything about life?

School has got noting to do with paintball. You do your best and that’s it. If your parents don't like the way your living your life that an't your problem.

Have a think about the longer term here.
No (or few) qualifications = dead end job = low salary = can only afford to play occasionally (even if you do stint on luxuries like food).
Very good qualifications = high end job = very good salary = play as often as you want & afford loads of shiny toys to play with.

I know which one I would do if I was young again!
Not necessarily. My grades sure an't outstanding, and I only passed my GNVQ. Your attitude to life means much more, also confidence in yourself goes a long way to getting a decent job. I'm 20 and earning over £18k a year. I don't consider this to be a bad wage for my age. Of cuz I’d like more, but hey dont we all.

Maybe it’s just my way of looking at life. My parents where very poor, and so was I growing up. Money doesn't bother me. Enjoying myself does! I don't get stressed out, and very little annoys me. Different strokes different folks.

To quote trainspotting* : Choose Life.

*just cuz i quoted it doesn't mean i want you to all start on the smack, m`okay?

Well school wise I didn't do great, but whilst I was waiting for my exam results I got a Traineeship 9 months down the line the company went bust, so there I am with crap qualifications and no real idea of what I wanted to do, I got a job at McDonalds :( paid ok though but a ****e place to work, then I got a job in a warehouse, slightly better money but not great, soon got bored and also wanted more money so got a job in MFI warehouse money was better again but no direction 3.5 years later I got made redundant (not a 'yes' man lol) so no job crap grades and 4 years warehouse experiance but never wanting to step foot in another warehouse well I got lucky, I applied for a job as a computer engineer, luckily for me they wanted enthusiasm over experiance and I got the job, from there I studied and gained my CCNA qualification and moved into the Networking department. Excellent money specially for my age and I love my job.
Good school grades/qualifications aren't necessarily the be all and end all but in general are damn usefull especially if you want a job that is well paid.
I was lucky, if I hadn't been I'd of been pissed that I hadn't studied more in school.

I'm hearing a lot of stories on this thread about people who did pretty average on their GCSE's etc. and managed to get by OK, but the point is - if you do work hard and are able to get descent grades then your chances of a succesful and prosperous future greatly increase. You probably wouldn't have to do the 4 years of crappy work before getting a lucky break. Also, you may not even get this lucky break at all if your not able to get the grades. :(
This is the truth and those of you who manage to scrape by then fine, those who are able to go back to school again and get their qualifications then great! But I feel, and I'm not to sure about some of you, that it's best to try your best whilst your there and have to do it anyway - it'll sure as hell beat having to go back a again later or getting stuck in a rut for a couple of years when you leave at 16 or whenever. Just how I feel...

Let's see, a 16 year old who has been underage drinking for two years,
You have to understand that Europeans are not as uptight as Americans when it comes to drinking. Last time I visited Germany I was at the pub drinking with my 16 year old cousin(strange really).
