sure, any activity which requires teamwork and a degree of physical activity will be a positive thing,
co-operation, social skills, communication, interaction - all skills gained from teamwork: whether from playing in the woods or on the field.
running around the woods all day carrying a full load for scenario will help with stamina and general well being.
running around for short fast bursts on a sup'air field - great for reflex training, preloading muscle work, and anaerobic and aerobic fitness.
also the various chemicals released (adrenaline, endorphins, etc) have a very positive effect on the brain chemistry, promoting feelings of euphoria and well-being.
if people train and get good, then they can feel they are achieving something - always a plus for young people with other life issues.
