Paintball and Life

Being a youth worker and having to write funding bids which include activities such as paintball I'd have to say yes.

Skills
- Team work: working with people for mutal benefit
- Communication: getting across what you need to, both on an off
- Respecting authority
- Self esteem: seeing your time/effort pay off and skills rise
- 'Stickability': Staying committed rather than jumping from hobby to hobby.

So yes, all are transferable life skills.
I'd say this pretty much goes for any team sport. Is there anything paintball specific we could think of?

PS Good topic.
PPS Stickability is known as stick-at-it-ness ;)

you fag....!
in agreement

my opinion on the topic is; Yes in aspects and no in others

Yes, to all the new friends a people you meet (most of which are welcoming)

No, it takes up alot of younger generations cash which could be used to spend time on going to other places such as parties etc ... as we all know we learn alot about ourselves at parties and when getting drunk

it also takes up alot of time which could be spent elsewhere

However it has improved my IT skills having to reply to threads like this and will later lead me to get authritis (sp) and possibly a dead end office job just to fund my sport.

But where would we be without it ...

Does paintball at any level improve your life skills?

If so does the level you play at effect these "skills"?

Discuss....
you doing a thesis ryan?

sure, any activity which requires teamwork and a degree of physical activity will be a positive thing,

co-operation, social skills, communication, interaction - all skills gained from teamwork: whether from playing in the woods or on the field.

running around the woods all day carrying a full load for scenario will help with stamina and general well being.

running around for short fast bursts on a sup'air field - great for reflex training, preloading muscle work, and anaerobic and aerobic fitness.

also the various chemicals released (adrenaline, endorphins, etc) have a very positive effect on the brain chemistry, promoting feelings of euphoria and well-being.

if people train and get good, then they can feel they are achieving something - always a plus for young people with other life issues.

just some thoughts....

It'll improve the same life skills as any other team sport will.

It may give some people a little mechanical knowledge.

But other than that, it won't give you any life skills that football couldn't...

On the train home today after having 5 degree exams this week I was thinking to myself I cant wait to ball again, all during my exams I just thought about shooting my new ego 07.

Now paintball consumes a hell alot of my thought..along with beer, sex etc

But its also tought me alot about friendship, loyalty, managing money etc. More so than I would got with other sports.

I worked my arse off studying for my exams because I want to get a job in R&D in marker design. I feel this has pushed me to get my 2nd degree at 21 years of age (hopefully). Without paintball I dont think I would of pushed myself as far and probably left Uni by now.

since i started paintball 4 years ago now i have met some really cool people who i would consider my best friends.

Also i have met some people that are just a complete waste of my time.

but the good out weighs the bad so its cool.

I have in=vested all my money into a paintball site for players which because of this i have fell behind on mortgage payments a few times.....

i have cut down my shifts at work so i can play more and look after the site.

so not as much money coming in but i am happy for a change not being tied down to the same old **** as normal just cant wait for the weekends again.
