PA x ball few things

Russell Smith

The Paintball Association
just a few things really was watching the PA again on sunday and just thought of a few things that it was missing, first was the lack of a score board which made it quite difficult from a viewing point of who was winning, then in full x ball the score board has the timmer for the penalty instaed of the person in the dead box left wondering when he can come out he can see it counting down. and the second thing was why isnt the penlty box/ start gate opening out from the front instead of a just a normal start gate cos that alows the player to come out either side after the end of the penalty instead of the front like in full x ball it wouldnt be to hard to net off the sides and have a netted front to alow players in and out, any way i was just wondering if thease things were due to happen thats all ?

any wanna add anything
The plan in the future is to purchase PSP scoreboards for both fields but like someone has already noted they cost a fortune and I wont be spending that sort of cash unless I know it will work out.
The current plan is to have monitor screens in each safe area so the teams can see all the details that are on the scorekeepers computer screen.
The penalty box issue! - I don't see a problem in fact to some extent it helps the guy in the box because if time is running out players on the opposite team will not know what side to train their gun!
We also are working on a plan to assist the people in the penalty box.

To be honest I don't know why were all in favour of playing X-Ball, Why don't we swap the X for an M and play CPL/SPL format! It would be more benificail for us all in the long run because we would already know the field lay out for the next millenium.............

True words spoken there ed. The X needs to go along with the xball format. CPL/SPL rules and fields are the only way forward in my eyes. European paintball is quickly adopting this system through out the divs and is an awesome game. You may even fit in more games each event to 3 or even 4.

If the organizers of these UK tournaments want to help process UK ball as I’ve heard so many times then by playing this format and having the next Millennium field to play on is the only way forward. CPL/SPL teams would be very happy as there going be getting some competitive game practice on the up and coming millennium field and for those that don’t play in the millenniums then I’m sure they’d be happy to play on what ever field there given and too be fair the CPL/SPL fields are normally very good to play.

This would also mean that you would not have to design the field either as they’d be done for you courtesy of the millennium :)

If people wanted to play then they would play what ever the format, most people are just looking for proper organisation and you only get better by practising and playing
I think this year is a learning curve and perhaps more could have been done before the season started, but in fairness each round it is getting better and Russ is working on loads of things

The only 3 things I wish to be looked at and even though not very important I feel that they could be sorted:

A) The way each leg has started late. Everyone knows the start time, everyone knows how long to blow up the feilds etc, so why is this happening

B)The gap in between each game is a killer, could we not split the games up so you played the first half of 25 mins then the other teams play their first halfs. You would only have just under 1 hour between games then and that hour would go so fast as you would be cleaning gear etc ready for the next half.

C) The pits are not big enough to get into and start setting up whilst the other teams are playing. The top one has the advantage of the field next to it but the middle areas don't

mmm

if the size of the pits is not dooable then maybe increase the 5 mins between games to 7&1/2 or 10 mins please.

russell you are doing a great job since taking over the reigns well done ;);)

and what stephen said about cpl/spl fields might be a awesome idea for the teams playing in millenium but how do the rest of the teams feel that dont play millenniums????:rolleyes:

this is england, a tenth of the size of america

from a uk refs veiw.........

penalty box- cannot be supervised by a ref, just averted my eyes away from the game,(hush hush yes it was me,but i didnt like it i had to look at you, the game and the timer guy ...too much)

scoreboard- flipchart would be perfect,as the laptop guy must keep a written copy of scores anyway

x ball to m ball- don't be silly .....its called "x-ball" so play x ball, the millennium is a separate event and should be treated accordingly

5 minute gaps- this is how its done, deal with it, yet this also ties in with......

gaps between games-.....while your not playing you should be getting your stuff sorted .(paint kit exercises,plans)..so that when the game before you finishes you should be able to walk into the pits and step onto the field

there we go ...my little ref bitch to the players

(my views are my own and not that of the uk refs)

The whole point behind what woody was saying is uk teams need to improve the format they play and a cpl based event would do that plus it would give up and coming teams a chance to play that format.
